Jason Vargas allowed just two hits over seven shutout frames in Thursday's 2-0 win over the Rays.
Vargas walked three but struck out seven in the outing, getting removed after seven because he had reached 114 pitches. The left-hander has now looked really good in two straight outings and could be a sneaky waiver wire add for a contending team. As it stands right now, he'll face the Rays again next week, this time at home.

Jason Vargas held the Mariners to one run over 6 1/3 innings in a victory Saturday.
Vargas allowed eight hits, but only Dustin Ackley's double went for extra bases, and he still had his shutout going into the seventh inning. Now that he's demonstrated he's healthy, there's at least a slim chance of Vargas getting traded before the end of the month. He'd be an attractive third or fourth starter for a team in a big ballpark. He's 7-5 with a 3.77 ERA for the season.

Jason Vargas struggled in his return from the disabled list Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over just 4 1/3 innings against the Yankees.
Vernon Wells took Vargas deep in the second, and Alfonso Soriano helped to chase him from the game with a two-run shot in the fifth. It's certainly not an ideal performance, but we'll cut the left-hander a little slack since he hadn't started a big league game in nearly two months. He'll have a good chance to rebound this weekend at home against the Astros.

Jason Vargas (arm) will be activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Yankees.
That was the assumption already, but it's now official. Angels manager Mike Scioscia isn't ready to announce how he'll proceed with the rotation, but Jerome Williams or Tommy Hanson will likely get the boot.

Jason Vargas (arm) is expected to start Tuesday against the Yankees.
Vargas made it through a bullpen session Sunday without any issues and is set to rejoin the starting rotation barring any setbacks. The Angels will wait until Monday before making an official decision.

Jason Vargas (arm) will throw a bullpen on Sunday and could make a start on Tuesday if all goes well.
Vargas made his first rehab start this week but it may end up being the only one he needs. The start Tuesday would displace Tommy Hanson, so it's unclear how the rotation will shake out upon Vargas' return. The lefty was 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA before undergoing blood clot surgery in June.

Jason Vargas (arm) hopes to be activated from the disabled list to start next week against the Yankees.
Vargas, who has missed six weeks following blood clot surgery, allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings Thursday in his first rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake. It's not clear if the Angels want him to make another start in the minors before returning. The southpaw had a 3.65 ERA in 14 starts prior to the surgery.

Jason Vargas (arm) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings in his first rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake Thursday.
He struck out two while surrendering three homers. Vargas got his pitch count up to 72, so he should be sufficiently stretched out to rejoin the Angels' rotation, but it's possible they'll give him another outing in hopes for better results.

Jason Vargas (arm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
He'll get his pitch count up to 75-80 in the outing, so the left-hander might only need the one rehab start before rejoining the Angels' rotation. Vargas has been out since mid-June after having surgery to remove a blood clot from his left armpit.

Vargas reported feeling "really good" after a 50-pitch simulated game on Saturday. He has been on the disabled list since the middle of June with upper arm issues.
