Jason Vargas gave up two runs over 8 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mariners on Saturday.
The game was tied at 1-1 until Vargas gave up a pinch-hit RBI single to Dustin Ackley with two outs in the top of the ninth. The southpaw allowed 10 hits and no walks while striking out a pair. While Vargas took the loss, he has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in six straight starts and eight out of his last nine. He'll bring a 3.16 ERA into a start against the Angels next week.

Jason Vargas allowed three late runs after seven scoreless innings of work, but the Royals held on to beat the Indians on Tuesday.
Vargas cruised through seven innings and recorded two quick outs in the eighth before a single and a HBP precluded Jason Kipnis' two-run double. Vargas was yanked, but Kipnis was allowed to score as well, giving the southpaw three earned runs charged against him in 7 2/3 innings of work. Vargas struck out five while allowing six hits overall. With the win, Vargas moved to 6-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 14 starts. He'll take on the Tigers on Monday.

Jason Vargas allowed just two earned runs over eight innings but took a no-decision Wednesday versus the Cardinals.
The Cardinals won the game in the 11th inning. Vargas yielded runs in the second and seventh innings but was otherwise solid, lowering his ERA slightly from 3.39 to 3.28. He's been locked in now in three straight starts and will try to keep it rolling next week against the Yankees.

Jason Vargas turned in an impressive performance in Friday's victory over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings.
Vargas punched out seven on the night while issuing three free passes. The only run against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Jose Bautista. He has been a very stable and dependable arm for the Royals this season, compiling a 3.39 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 59/21 K/BB ratio 77 innings. He'll look to keep it rolling when he takes on the Cardinals at home on Wednesday.

Jason Vargas allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings but settled for a no-decision against the Angels on Sunday.
Vargas left with the lead but his bullpen was unable to hold on, depriving him of his fifth win of the season. Vargas allowed just three hits but his control left something to be desired -- his five walks were the most allowed in 11 starts this year. The left-hander also fanned six. He'll search for that fifth win Friday at the Blue Jays.

Jason Vargas was lit up for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings by the White Sox on Monday.
Vargas has allowed just 28 runs in 10 starts, but half of those have come in two outings this month: the seven tonight and seven against the Tigers on May 4. It was the homers that did it tonight; he surrendered a season-high three, bringing his total for the year to 10. He gets the righty heavy Angels next time out, making him a mediocre play in mixed leagues.

Jason Vargas struck out eight while allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday in a win over the Rockies.
Eight strikeouts is a new high for him as a Royal, and it's the ninth time he's reached that mark in his career. After a rough patch against the Blue Jays and Tigers, he's allowed two runs over 13 2/3 innings while winning his last two starts. That's good, but he's still a risky play next week with the right-handed heavy White Sox and Angels on the schedule.

Jason Vargas blanked the Mariners for seven innings, allowing just three hits, to cruise to a victory Friday.
Vargas was coming off back-to-back poor outings against the Jays and Tigers, so a matchup with his former team and its lefty-heavy lineup in Safeco was just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately, he'll get the Rockies next time out, so it'd probably be a good idea to hold him out in mixed leagues.
