Jason Vargas hurled his fourth career shutout Friday in the Angels' 4-0 win over the Orioles.
Vargas, who was 0-3 in April, took matters into his own hands tonight after taking a loss while allowing two runs in eight innings his last time out. He's allowed three runs or fewer in four of his six starts to date, but poor support had doomed him. Expect another nice outing with the Astros on deck next week.

Jason Vargas allowed just two runs over eight innings in a loss Sunday against the Mariners.
Pitching against his former team, Vargas came away with easily his best start of the season, but was unable to do enough for the win. It was a questionable decision for the Angels to bring him out for the eight inning, where he gave up the game-winning home run to Michael Morse. Vargas managed a quality start despite the loss. He held the Mariners to just six hits and finished with seven strikeouts.

Jason Vargas yielded three runs in seven innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Rangers.
Vargas remained winless on the season, but at least the Angels prevailed for the first time in one of his starts. While Vargas' 5.82 ERA isn't bad, his 2.03 WHIP is hideous. Even tonight, he struck out just two and walked three, giving him a 10/10 K/BB ratio. The Angels' stellar outfield defense can't make him a useful fantasy pitcher all by itself.

Jason Vargas was tagged for five runs in 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Athletics.
Vargas danced around trouble for most of the night, but he gave up three straight extra-base hits (including a two-run homer by Josh Donaldson) before being pulled in the sixth. Kevin Jepsen then allowed two inherited runners to score, further damaging Vargas' line. The southpaw allowed 10 hits and three walks in the loss. While he was a dud on Thursday night, we still think he'll be a pretty decent streaming option in his home starts.

Jason Vargas was absolutely obliterated by the Dodgers in his final spring start Friday, allowing eight runs on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
Vargas also walked two on the evening, while striking out three. Most of the damage came via an A.J. Ellis grand slam in the five-run first inning. With the poor performance, Vargas wraps up his spring schedule with a troublesome 7.54 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 18/7 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. An already sketchy option in fantasy leagues, it may be best to avoid calling Vargas' name on draft day.

Jason Vargas was shelled for five earned runs over 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in the Angels' loss to the Brewers.
Vargas struck out four and issued only one walk, but he yielded eight hits -- two of which were home runs. The 30-year-old left-hander has a 6.00 ERA so far this spring, but he is locked into a starting rotation spot.

Jason Vargas yielded one run over 4 2/3 innings in Thursday's 12-4 win over the White Sox.
Vargas limited the White Sox to just two hits and a walk while striking out five. The lone run scored on a Blake Tekotte triple in the third inning. Many figure to overlook Vargas in fantasy leagues because he'll no longer call Safeco Field home, but we still think he'll be a nice matchup play in Anaheim.

Jason Vargas spun two hitless innings Monday against the Athletics.
Vargas walked one batter and notched one strikeout. While the southpaw benefitted greatly during his time with the Mariners by making half of his starts at Safeco Field, he'll still be in a pretty favorable ballpark in Anaheim. We think he'll continue to be a solid matchup play in mixed fantasy leagues this year.

Angels and LHP Jason Vargas avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8.5 million contract.
Vargas, who was recently acquired from the Mariners, gets a nice raise from the $4.85 million he made in 2012 after winning a career-high 14 games while posting a 3.85 ERA over 217 innings. The 29-year-old left-hander can become a free agent after the 2013 season.

Angels acquired LHP Jason Vargas from the Mariners for DH Kendrys Morales.
Vargas posted a cool 3.85 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 141/55 K/BB ratio in 217 1/3 innings this past season for the Mariners. The cavernous dimensions of Safeco Field definitely helped those numbers, but the 29-year-old left-hander is a solid innings eater and should retain a good amount of fantasy value in Anaheim.
