Jason Vargas (arm) hopes to be activated from the disabled list to start next week against the Yankees. Vargas, who has missed six weeks following blood clot surgery, allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings Thursday in his first rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake. It's not clear if the Angels want him to make another start in the minors before returning. The southpaw had a 3.65 ERA in 14 starts prior to the surgery.
