Jason Vargas (arm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. He'll get his pitch count up to 75-80 in the outing, so the left-hander might only need the one rehab start before rejoining the Angels' rotation. Vargas has been out since mid-June after having surgery to remove a blood clot from his left armpit.
