Jason Vargas allowed just one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday, but got stuck with a no-decision in Seattle's 2-1, 12-inning win over the Yankees.
He struck out six and walked one. Vargas' only mistake of the night, allowing a solo home run to Nick Swisher in the seventh, got him yanked. His second straight quality start leaves him with a 6.03 ERA in 65 2/3 innings since the All-Star break.

Jason Vargas surrendered one run and four hits in six innings against the Royals on Thursday to win for the first time since Aug. 10.
It was just the second victory since the All-Star break for the left-hander, who has seen his ERA climb from 3.49 to 4.49 in the second half. He recorded three shutouts and four complete games in the first half, but he hasn't gone more than seven innings in a start since.

Jason Vargas was tagged for nine earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
Vargas struck out two, walked two and yielded 10 hits. He was clean through three innings, but gave up a three-run shot to Dayan Viciedo in the fourth and a grand slam to Tyler Flowers in the sixth. Hopefully fantasy owners didn't buy into his seven shutout innings in Cleveland last time out.

Jason Vargas was ripped for eight runs over four innings in a loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday.
It was a night to forget. Vargas walked four, gave up seven hits and struck out two. Those that trusted him in mixed leagues after he posted consecutive quality starts got burned bad. Vargas has now been shelled in five of seven outings since the All-Star break, raising his ERA from 3.49 to 4.37.

Jason Vargas tossed six shutout innings Friday, limiting the Angels to seven hits and a walk in the extra innings loss.
He needed 111 pitches to get through the six frames, but we won't complain given that Vargas had allowed 24 runs -- 18 earned -- over his previous four outings. He hasn't won since shutting out the Padres back on July 1 but still sports a solid 4.02 ERA and 1.29 WHIP for the season. He'll go up against the Rangers next.

Jason Vargas yielded six runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rays Sunday.
Vargas did strike out six and walk just one, but was knocked around for nine hits. It's the fourth straight outing that he has allowed four earned runs or more and he hasn't gone more than six innings in any of those starts. The 3.49 ERA Vargas had on July 6 is up to 4.19 on July 31.

Jason Vargas got roughed up on Monday evening in New York, allowing eight runs -- four earned -- on seven hits and a walk in just four innings of a Mariners loss.
He struck out two and gave up a pair of long balls. The non-quality start was his third straight after he began July by allowing just two runs in his first 17 innings of work. In those three outings, he's given up 18 runs (14 earned) over 13 innings. The Mariners are shopping Vargas, who has two more years of salary arbitration, but outings like this aren't going to help his trade value. He's 6-9 with a 4.09 ERA on the year.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Reds scouted the Mariners' Jason Vargas and Doug Fister in Toronto this week.
Vargas has two more years of salary arbitration and Fister has yet to reach arbitration, so the Mariners don't have any extra incentive to deal either hurler. But, they'll surely be willing to listen to offers for both. It's clear that the Reds plan to add a starter before the deadline, as they've also been connected to Ubaldo Jimenez and James Shields.

Jason Vargas got roughed up on Wednesday evening in Toronto, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in just three innings of a Mariners loss.
The five walks were a season worst, while Vargas notched zero strikeouts in falling to 6-8 on the season. The non-quality start was his second straight after he began July by allowing just two runs in his first 17 innings of work. Now the owner of a 3.94 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, he'll get the Yankees in New York next week.
