Jason Vargas ended his season on a high note, delivering an outstanding performance in a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday.
Vargas allowed just one run on five hits over his seven frames while walking none and striking out seven. He left the game with a 4-1 lead, and stood in line to earn his 15th victory until Tom Wilhelmsen blew a save chance in the ninth inning. Vargas wraps up a very solid season that saw him go 14-11 with a 3.85 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 141/55 K/BB ratio over a career-high 217 1/3 innings.

Jason Vargas was knocked around in a no-decision against the Rangers on Saturday, surrendering four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings.
He also walked three while striking out four in the game. Mike Napoli blasted a three-run homer in the sixth inning, accounting for most of the damage against him. He'll head into Saturday's re-match against these same Rangers at home with a 14-10 record, 3.88 ERA and 131/53 K/BB ratio through 204 1/3 innings.

Jason Vargas limited the Red Sox to one run and six hits in seven innings to win Monday.
Vargas lowered his home ERA to 2.52 today. Unfortunately, he's made 17 of his 29 starts on the road, where he has a 4.84 ERA. Still, 14-9 with a 3.80 ERA for the season isn't bad, and he should do pretty well as he heads into arbitration for the last time this winter.

Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Jason Vargas has been claimed on revocable waivers.
Morosi also notes that Felix Hernandez was claimed, while Kevin Millwood went unclaimed. Hernandez and Vargas won't be traded, but it's possible someone might take a shot on Millwood. However, with a 5.27 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over nine second half starts, it's doubtful he'll draw that much interest.

Jason Vargas got rocked in Wednesday's loss to the Twins, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Vargas struck out five, walked two and allowed home runs to Trevor Plouffe and Josh Willingham in falling to 13-9. Currently on waivers, there's an outside chance tonight was Vargas' final start as a Mariner, but it's unlikely. Now the owner of a 3.90 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 116/47 K/BB ratio through 184 2/3 innings, he'll get the Red Sox at home on Monday.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Mariners placed Jason Vargas and Kevin Millwood on revocable waivers on Monday.
Both are likely to be claimed, though they may not make it out of the American League. Vargas is 13-8 with a 3.75 ERA and a 111/45 K/BB ratio in 180 innings this season and is under team control for another year. The 37-year-old Millwood has a 4.28 ERA and a 100/48 K/BB ratio in 145 innings this year and will be a free agent this offseason.

Jason Vargas took a complete game loss in Monday's game against the Orioles.
Vargas allowed three runs on eight hits, throwing 73 of his 105 pitches for strikes. He's pitched at least seven innings in five of his last seven starts, and continues to be a valuable innings eater for the Mariners. He likely would have been in line for a win if not for giving up a two-run homer to Nick Markakis in the third inning.

Jason Vargas notched his 12th win after allowing two runs in seven innings Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
No one met the Mariners' asking price for Vargas, which is good news for his fantasy value. He's won five in a row despite the typically modest run support provided by the Mariners. They got seven runs for him tonight.

Jason Vargas allowed one run and one hit in eight innings Thursday in a win over the Royals.
If this was Vargas' last start with the Mariners, it was a nice one, as he improved to 11-7 with a 3.76 ERA. Billy Butler had both Royals hits on the night, supplying an RBI double off Vargas in the fourth and then doubling again off Tom Wilhelmsen in the ninth.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Orioles, Tigers and Royals have made inquiries on Jason Vargas.
All three clubs seem intent on adding pitching help, and Vargas would be a solid addition to the back-end of the rotation. The left-hander didn't hurt his trade value Saturday with terrific showing against the Rays that lowered his ERA to 3.91. Vargas is arbitration-eligible this winter for a final time.
