Jason Vargas got roughed up on Monday evening in New York, allowing eight runs -- four earned -- on seven hits and a walk in just four innings of a Mariners loss. He struck out two and gave up a pair of long balls. The non-quality start was his third straight after he began July by allowing just two runs in his first 17 innings of work. In those three outings, he's given up 18 runs (14 earned) over 13 innings. The Mariners are shopping Vargas, who has two more years of salary arbitration, but outings like this aren't going to help his trade value. He's 6-9 with a 4.09 ERA on the year.
