Jason Vargas tossed six shutout innings Friday, limiting the Angels to seven hits and a walk in the extra innings loss. He needed 111 pitches to get through the six frames, but we won't complain given that Vargas had allowed 24 runs -- 18 earned -- over his previous four outings. He hasn't won since shutting out the Padres back on July 1 but still sports a solid 4.02 ERA and 1.29 WHIP for the season. He'll go up against the Rangers next.
