McGee threw live batting practice earlier in the week, and his next step should be a rehab assignment. He may first throw a few more innings at extended spring training, but he's still on track to join the Tampa Bay bullpen in late April or early May.

McGee (elbow) will throw live batting practice Monday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
If all goes well, McGee will progress to extended spring training before advancing to minor league rehab appearances. A return prior to the end of April doesn't appear to be out of reach, but details regarding his return date should become more clear as he progresses through the next two steps of his rehab.

McGee (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
McGee has made progress over the last few weeks, but with the expectation that he won't face hitters until mid-April, he probably won't be ready to rejoin the Rays until the end of the month or some point in May.

McGee (elbow) said his bullpen session Tuesday went well, and he is in line to throw five more such sessions before facing hitters, the Tampa Tribune's R. Mooney reports.
His next bullpen is scheduled for Friday, and he will throw 30 pitches again, as he did Tuesday (which was his third bullpen session of the spring). McGee said he is still throwing at 70 or 80 percent as he doesn't want to ramp up his throwing just yet in an effort to avoid a setback. He has started throwing curveballs and plans to implement the pitch more this season. Last year McGee was dominant despite throwing his fastball almost exclusively. It will be interesting to see how his results vary if he becomes a legitimate two-pitch pitcher. At his current pace, McGee won't face hitters until mid-April, meaning he probably won't join the Rays until late-April/early-May.

McGee (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
McGee's bullpen session is his first of the spring, and it was likely fastball-heavy. He's still in the process of returning from arthroscopic elbow surgery, and is expected to begin the season on the disabled list, but his progress is promising.

McGee (elbow) threw 20 pitches off a mound Tuesday, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
It was McGee's first time throwing off a mound this spring, and he appears to have made it through the session without incident. He's still expected to open the year on the disabled list but could start a rehab assignment within the first few weeks of the season.

McGee (elbow) is planning throw his first bullpen session of the spring this upcoming Tuesday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
It appears that McGee's recovery from arthroscopic elbow surgery is still going according to plan, as the left-handed closer would reach another checkpoint with a successful bullpen session. He is still set to begin the season on the disabled list, but could begin a rehab assignment by mid-April.
