David Wright told reporters Friday that he has had "zero" talks with the Mets about a contract extension.
There's been plenty of clamoring for the Mets to begin negotiations following Wright's hot start to the season. While the team would reportedly love to keep him around as the face of the franchise, nothing appears to be imminent. The 29-year-old third baseman is owed $15 million this season while his contract includes a $16 million option for 2013 or a $1 million buyout. Assuming talks eventually take place, Wright will likely seek something similar to Ryan Zimmerman's recent six-year, $100 million extension with the Nationals.

David Wright went 3-for-5 in his return to the lineup Saturday including a home run in the Mets 5-0 victory over the Phillies.
Wright, who has been nursing a broken pinkie finger, hit a solo home run in his first at-bat of the game. He scored twice and drove in a run in the game. There had been speculation that Wright could face a stint on the disabled list had he not been ready to play by Saturday's game. For the time being, it appears that Wright will be able to successfully play through the ailment.

David Wright (finger) is in Saturday's lineup against the Phillies.
Josh Satin was placed on the Mets' 24-hour taxi squad, but it sounds like Wright will avoid a stint on the disabled list. His effectiveness coming back from injury, however, remains to be seen. An X-ray revealed a small fracture in Wright's pinkie finger earlier this week.

Mets manager Terry Collins hinted that if David Wright (finger) is unable to play on Saturday, that he will likely be placed on the disabled list.
Wright wants it to be perfectly clear, that this isn't an issue of him trying to suck up the pain and play through the injury. He can't physically grip a bat or throw a ball currently. He'll attempt to do both again on Saturday, but at this point a trip to the disabled list looks like the likely scenario. Justin Turner and Ronny Cedeno are the most likely candidates to cover third base in Wright's absence.

David Wright (finger) will not swing a bat until Saturday.
Wright was originally scheduled to test out his right pinkie finger before Friday's game, but he is still dealing with some swelling. If he is unable to swing a bat without discomfort Saturday, the Mets are expected to place him on the disabled list. Justin Turner will start at third base on Friday night, but Daniel Murphy would slide over from second base if Wright needs to miss a couple weeks.

David Wright (finger) will not return to the Mets lineup Friday.
Wright was given the go ahead to "return to baseball activity as tolerated" Thursday, but will remain sidelined for the third consecutive game. The good news is, the Mets have decided to hold off on deciding whether or not he needs a trip to the disabled list. Justin Turner will take his place at third, as well as bat third, Friday. Wright's status should be updated within the next 24 hours.

According to the New York Daily News, the Mets hope David Wright will "justify another multi-year commitment, and remain the face of their franchise for years."
However, the sides have yet to begin extension talks. Wright is in the final season of the six-year, $55 million extension he signed in August 2006, but the Mets own a $13 million 2013 team option. Despite their apparent desire to keep Wright long-term, the Mets want to hold off talks until they're sure he's not "entering an injury-prone phase of his career." Wright is currently dealing with a broken pinkie, and a decision on whether or not to send him to the disabled list is expected Friday.

David Wright (finger) visited a hand specialist Thursday, who reiterated that the third baseman can "can return to baseball activity as tolerated."
In other words, the diagnosis wasn't any different than what we were told Wednesday. Wright, who is currently wearing a splint, will likely test the finger out Friday before the Mets decide whether to place him on the disabled list. If he needs to miss a couple weeks, Daniel Murphy would slide over to third base while Justin Turner and Ronny Cedeno would split time at second base.

David Wright is scheduled to meet with a hand specialist Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
The examination should provide the Mets with an answer as to whether Wright needs a disabled list stint. He was diagnosed Tuesday with a small fracture in the middle of his right pinkie finger and has been fitted with a protective splint. For what it's worth, Mets manager Terry Collins has been telling reporters that he expects the 29-year-old third baseman to be ready for action in a couple of days.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that the team won't make a decision on David Wright (finger) until Friday.
Wright was diagnosed Tuesday with a small fracture in his right pinkie finger. He's listed as day-to-day right now and can resume baseball activities as his condition improves, but a DL-stint is still a possibility. Ronny Cedeno and Justin Turner figure to split third base duties in the short-term.
