David Wright spoke on the Mets' pregame show on Friday, stating that he will not discuss a contract extension during the season.
He made it clear that he will resume talks in the offseason only. While it would be beneficial and cost effective for the Mets to try to lock up Wright as early as possible, it looks like they'll have to wait until after the season to work out a deal. If no extension is reached, Wright is slated to become a free agent after the 2013 season.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team plans on making David Wright an extension sometime during the 2012 season.
Well, of course they are. Wright isn't slated for free agency until after 2013, but the Mets want to see what kind of deal he's looking for in case they have to consider trading him down the line. Many are expecting the team to be pretty aggressive in trying to lock up Wright, who entered play Tuesday batting .373 with five home runs and 28 RBI.

David Wright continued his torrid hitting, going 3-for-5 with a homer in the Mets loss to the Padres on Thursday.
He scored a run and drove home two on the night. He's now hitting a gaudy .405 on the season with five homers and 28 RBI. As impressive as Matt Kemp and Ryan Braun have been in the early going, Wright would definitely garner plenty of MVP consideration if the season were to end today. He's been the most critical factor in the Mets early season success, and has provided fantasy owners with tremendous production across the board.

David Wright (flu) has told Mets manager Terry Collins that he wants to return to the lineup Sunday.
Wright is under the weather and sat out Saturday, but he's evidently feeling better. The third baseman is off to a whale of a start, batting .409/.510/.622 with four homers and four steals through 36 games.

David Wright is not in Saturday's lineup.
The Mets will give Wright a scheduled day off, as expected. Justin Turner is starting at third base and batting sixth. Wright is battling an illness right now, so there's a chance he may also get Sunday off.

The Mets will likely offer David Wright a long-term extension, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Their offer could come as soon as this summer, according to the report. The Mets have a $16 million option on Wright for next year, so they could always wait until this winter to enter negotiations. General manager Sandy Alderson has all but ruled out trading Wright at the deadline. Wright, 29, leads the NL in average (.400) and on-base percentage (.489).

David Wright is 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored in a 9-3 win over the Marlins on Saturday.
Wright had a pair of RBI singles and a solo homer. He is now tied with Josh Hamilton for the major-league lead with a .402 batting average. Wright can't possibly maintain his crazy batting average on balls in play (BABIP) forever, but he hasn't looked this locked in at the plate in a long time. Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda also chipped in with three hits apiece.

David Wright went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Marlins on Friday night.
Wright has three straight multi-hit games under his belt and currently leads the National League with a .387 batting average. He has only three homers, so the power hasn't quite been there yet, but it's hard to complain when he's producing like this.
