Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that extension talks between the Mets and David Wright and R.A. Dickey "remain very preliminary." Martino adds that the discussions "have not yet advanced to the point of discussing years or dollars," and the two sides are "still talking about when to really get talking." The Mets said at the end of the season that reaching agreements with the two players before the end of October was a possibility, but obviously the chances of that happening are now slim. That said, they clearly have plenty of time. New York has options on both players for 2013 but would like to lock them up over the long haul.

The New York Daily News reports the Mets could begin formal contract negotiations with David Wright next week. Wright and R.A. Dickey have one year left on their contracts, but GM Sandy Alderson is making an aggressive push to re-sign both players before the start of the World Series. Wright is expected to command a contract of at least six years and $120 million. Dickey has a $5 million option for next season, and is seeking a multi-year extension.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Mets are preparing an offer of around $100 million for David Wright. Wright has a $16 million club option for 2013, but the Mets don't want him getting even a whiff of free agency so they plan to be aggressive this autumn in the hope of working something out long term. R.A. Dickey might also get an extension from the Mets before the winter hits. Wright, 29, batted .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs and 93 RBI in 156 games this past season while playing excellent defense at third base.

David Wright will exit Wednesday's season finale after a couple of at-bats. Just something to keep in mind if you are weighing your lineup in a daily fantasy league. Wright is batting .307 this year and will finish over .300 for the first time since 2009.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York was told by team officials that the Mets are optimistic David Wright will remain with the club for the long-term. Wright said in an interview Sunday that he wants his next contract to take him into retirement. Likewise, the Mets hope he will succeed Tom Seaver as the organization's unofficial ambassador. However, in order to re-sign with the Mets, Wright wants assurances that the team will have the ability to add payroll via trades and free-agent signings. The Mets are expected to pick up the $16 million option on his contract for 2013, but he is likely to test free agency next winter if the two sides can't agree to an extension this winter.

David Wright went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk and a stolen base Monday in a loss to the Marlins. Wright now has four multi-hit games in his last six. He has 15 stolen bases on the year, but has also been thrown out 10 times. Of course, that's a minor critique on what has been a fantastic all-around season.

David Wright will not be in the Mets starting lineup on Sunday, he'll just be getting a regular day of rest. Wright owners need not fear, he'll be back in the lineup for the final three games of the season against the Marlins in Miami. Wright is hitting .301/.381/.506 with 21 homers, 91 RBI and 14 steals in what has been a resurgent season.

David Wright went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer Thursday against the Pirates. Wright, who became the Mets' all-time hits leader yesterday, finished the series against Pittsburgh 7-for-15 with two homers and seven RBI. He shouldn't finish first or second, but he deserves to be listed on every MVP ballot with the way he's performed this year.
