Mets manager Terry Collins hopes to have David Wright (abdominal strain) in the lineup as soon as this weekend.
Wright has made some progress since receiving a cortisone shot eight days ago, taking swings off a tee and soft tosses as recently as Sunday. However, he's not ready to begin hitting live pitching. Collins estimates that he'll begin playing in games by early next week at the latest, which gives him a shot to be ready for Opening Day.

David Wright (abdominal strain) hit off a tee and swung at soft tosses in the cage on Sunday.
Wright was not cleared to take live batting practice, though we're encouraged that he has progressed to swinging sooner than expected. He was given an anti-inflammatory injection last week and the third baseman believes he will be ready for Opening Day.

David Wright (abdominal strain) continues to field grounders and make throws, but there's no timetable for when he'll be allowed to resume swinging a bat.
Wright was given an anti-inflammatory injection last week to help with the healing of a tear of the rectus abdominis muscle on his left side. The third baseman maintains a goal of being ready for Opening Day, but he's obviously running out of time.

David Wright (rib cage) is expected to receive a cortisone injection in his midsection Monday.
Wright was already scheduled to see the doctor, and evidently he'll get a shot while he's there in hopes that it will speed up his recovery from a rib cage injury. The ailment has already lingered on longer than initially expected, but he still has time to get ready for the beginning of the season as long as he doesn't have a setback.

David Wright (rib cage) could begin hitting off a tee Saturday but won't be ready to play in a game until at least early next week.
The stiffness in Wright's side has subsided, but the Mets are still understandably taking it slow with him. There's still plenty of time for him to get ready for the season, assuming he doesn't have any setbacks. Wright is looking for a bounce-back year after being limited by a back injury last season.

David Wright (rib cage) may start taking grounders without throwing and taking light swings in the cage by the weekend.
Wright is being brought along slowly after recently suffering some stiffness in the left side of his rib cage. Mets' manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that the stiffness has subsided, but the 29-year-old third baseman isn't expected to make his spring debut until at least next week. There's still plenty of time for him to get ready for the season, but the Mets don't want to risk the possibility of a setback.

David Wright was still dealing with discomfort in his left ribcage Sunday, so the Mets have ruled him out for Monday's Grapefruit League opener.
He won't play Tuesday, either. The Mets said holding Wright out of intrasquad games Saturday and Sunday was a precautionary move, but the soreness is lingering and they'll shut him down until the symptoms go away. It's way too early at this point to suggest the third baseman might not be ready for Opening Day, but we'll be tracking his progress closely. Wright is looking for a bounce-back year after being limited by a back injury last season.
