Mets GM Sandy Alderson said he doesn't think it's a bad sign that no agreements have been reached with David Wright and R.A. Dickey at this stage of the offseason.
"Not necessarily," Alderson said. "These things take on a life of their own so I'm not surprised. I wouldn't take it as a negative." The New York Post reported Friday that talks are "ongoing" with Wright and Dickey, and Alderson expects to have more clarity on the situation before the start of winter meetings. Wright is believed to be seeking an extension of at least seven years and $120 million.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that they need to have more clarity on talks with free agents David Wright and R.A. Dickey between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings.
The Mets have already made a formal extension offer to Wright and are awaiting a counter proposal, but aren't as far along in talks with Dickey. They'll seek resolutions to both situations before the winter meetings, in order to determine the team's direction for the remainder of the offseason.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that the Mets have submitted a formal extension offer to David Wright, and Wright's representatives have made a counter proposal.
Terms of the offers aren't known. It's not really much of an update, as it probably should have been assumed that the two sides had done as much given that talks have been ongoing for a while now. The Mets would like to lock up both Wright and R.A. Dickey to multi-year deals, but it's probably more likely that Wright gets a new contract.

Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said Tuesday that extension talks with David Wright and R.A. Dickey are "ongoing."
The Mets' top priority is to work out extension with both players, but trades will likely be explored if progress isn't made soon. Wright and Dickey can become free agents after the 2013 season.

The Mets continue to work towards a contract extension with David Wright, though a source close to the discussions claims that the two sides are "not close".
The Mets exercised Wright's $16 million option for the 2013 season on Tuesday night, but would like to lock-up their superstar third basemen to a long-term deal. Wright is believed to be seeking a seven or eight year deal worth upward of $20 million each season.

Mike Puma of the New York Post was told by a source that contract talks between the Mets and David Wright are "stuck in neutral."
Both sides are trying to keep details under wraps, so it's unclear what exactly is in dispute at the moment. However, negotiations are ongoing and are expected to continue. The Mets made the no-brainer decision to exercise Wright's $16 million club option for 2013 on Tuesday night.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the David Wright extension talks will soon accelerate.
The Mets exercised Wright's $16 million option for 2103 on Tuesday night, but that was really a formality. Now the two sides will dig in and try to come up with a long-term deal that will keep the third baseman in New York for the foreseeable future. Wright, 29, hit .306/.391/.492 with 21 home runs, 93 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 156 games this season while playing superb defense at the hot corner. It's believed that he is going to wind up with a seven-year contract worth north of $120 million.

Mets exercised 3B David Wright's $16 million option for 2013.
It was merely a formality. The two sides remain in ongoing negotiations regarding a long-term extension, and it seems likely that something will get done prior to spring training. Wright had a nice bounce-back season for the Mets in 2012, batting .306/.391/.492 with 21 homers. New York also picked up R.A. Dickey's option.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Mets and David Wright are in negotiations on a multi-year extension, but the club will pick up his $16 million club option for 2013 if a deal can't be worked out by Wednesday.
The Mets originally hoped to use Wright's option date as a soft deadline, but talks are expected to continue. The two sides are believed to have made some progress, though Heyman writes that negotiations have been described as "slow" by some. Mets ownership is trying to keep talks a secret, so silence isn't necessarily a bad thing. Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote over the weekend that the consensus among executives is that the Mets will offer Wright a seven-year, $127 million contract.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the consensus among league executives is that the Mets will offer David Wright a seven-year, $127 million contract extension.
Wright has a $16 million option in 2013, so his total future package could be worth $143 million over eight seasons. Sherman reports that officials believe topping Johan Santana's $137.5 million and Ryan Zimmerman's six-year, $100 million extension with the Nationals are important to Wright. Under the proposed deal, Wright would make roughly $18 million average annual value (AAV), and be under contract through the 2020 season.
