The Mets originally hoped to use Wright's option date as a soft deadline, but talks are expected to continue. The two sides are believed to have made some progress, though Heyman writes that negotiations have been described as "slow" by some. Mets ownership is trying to keep talks a secret, so silence isn't necessarily a bad thing. Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote over the weekend that the consensus among executives is that the Mets will offer Wright a seven-year, $127 million contract.
