David Wright (intercostal) is hoping to be ready for Opening Day.
While it isn't ruled out at this point, it's unlikely. Wright will be shut down for a couple more days with a moderate intercostal strain before being re-evaluated. More should be known about his timetable at that point.

David Wright has been diagnosed with a moderate intercostal strain and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day.
The Mets will shut the third baseman down for 3-5 days before re-evaluating him. They are saying at this point that it's too early to rule out Opening Day, but it sure seems like a longshot. Barring a setback, though, he shouldn't miss too much of April. Justin Turner is the top in-house option to fill in at the hot corner until Wright is ready.

David Wright (ribs) has been sent to New York to be examined.
The original thought was that he would just be sent to the Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie to be looked at, but he'll head there after the Big Apple. Wright insists that his rib cage injury isn't that big of a deal and that it bothers him more while sleeping than when playing baseball. The Mets obviously aren't going to take any chances, though, so it would be shocking if he plays in any more WBC games.

David Wright revealed that the injury that caused him to be scratched from USA's lineup Thursday was more to his left rib cage, rather than his back as originally reported.
Wright admitted that he's had a bit of soreness in the area "for about a week or so." It doesn't necessarily mean he's worse off, but the Mets are no doubt crossing their fingers that it's not a possible oblique strain. Wright will be examined by Mets doctors on Friday. Willie Bloomquist took his spot in the USA lineup Thursday.

David Wright has been scratched from Team USA's lineup Thursday due to a sore back.
The injury doesn't sound like a big concern, as Wright was able to take batting practice before the game, but it's obviously a notable blow to USA's hopes in their attempt to knock off the Dominican Republic. Wright will be replaced at third base by the uninspiring Willie Bloomquist.

David Wright went 2-for-5 with five RBI in USA's 7-1 win over Puerto Rico Tuesday.
Wright drove in a run with a groundout in the third and another with a single in the fifth. He then provided three big insurance runs in the eighth with a bases-clearing double. The Mets' third baseman has now driven in 10 runs in WBC action, which already ties the record.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com confirms that David Wright will make $8 million in 2013.
His new extension calls for him to make $11 million in 2013, but he'll defer $3 million without interest. The Mets initially exercised Wright's $16 million option for 2013, but they'll end up getting $8 million in salary relief under the terms of the new agreement. Wright will make $20 million per season from 2014-2018, $15 million in 2019 and $12 million in 2020.

Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal reports that David Wright has agreed to reduce his 2013 salary to $8 million.
The Mets picked up Wright's $16 million club option back in October, but he'll actually make half of that in 2013 under the terms of the new deal. This could give the Mets some more flexibility to add some players in the coming days and weeks. As part of the new pact, he has also agreed to defer $15 million until after 2020.

David Wright has a full no-trade clause as part of his new eight-year, $138 million extension with the Mets.
Wright is very close to being a 10-and-5 guy anyway, which would allow him to control his destiny, but the full no-trade is an important symbolic gesture. The 29-year-old third baseman will be with the club through 2020.

Mets signed 3B David Wright to an eight-year, $138 million extension.
The deal, of course, was reported last week, and it's now official after Wright passed his physical Tuesday. The Mets ripped up Wright's contract for 2013, so it's a brand new eight-year pact but will in reality only add seven years, extending him through the 2020 campaign. The 29-year-old batted .306/.391/.492 with 21 homers, 93 RBI and 15 steals in 2012.
