Matt Cain wore a tight wrap around his right knee following Sunday's start but insisted that it's "nothing to worry about." Cain was hit by a comebacker during the first inning of the Cactus League game against the Cubs. He stayed in to finish the inning before the Giants decided to take him out. "They know how I am. They know I don't want to come out," he said. "But it's spring training. It's early. You don't want to do anything to linger on the rest of the spring. It was kind of an initial shock when you get hit. It takes a little bit to get the feeling back. I feel fine. It's nothing to worry about."

Matt Cain gave up four unearned runs over one inning Sunday in his start against the Cubs. Cain was struck by a comebacker off his right knee early in the game, but was allowed to finish the four-run inning before the Giants decided to take him out. None of his runs were earned, but Cain badly missed his spot on a three-run homer to Dioner Navarro. According to CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly, Cain expects to make his next start and doesn't anticipate missing any time.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Monday that Matt Cain will start on Opening Day against the Dodgers. It couldn't have been a difficult decision for Bochy. Cain registered a fantastic 2.79 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 193/51 K/BB ratio across 219 1/3 innings (32 starts) last season for the 2012 World Series champions. The 28-year-old right-hander is obviously an elite fantasy starter.

Matt Cain allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings in Sunday's World Series Game 4 win over the Tigers. Similar to his last start, Cain was effective without his best stuff. Of his 102 pitches, just 67 were for strikes and he gave up two opposite-field home runs to Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young. With five appearances this postseason, Cain's 2012 will end with a career-high 249-plus innings. The Giants have now won two World Series titles in the last three years.

Matt Cain tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings in Monday's 9-0 NLCS Game 7 victory over the Cardinals. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four. Cain actually really struggled the first few innings, but the Cardinals weren't able to capitalize and the Giants' ace eventually settled in. Cain has posted a 3.52 ERA over four postseason outings, though San Francisco would like him to go deeper into the game during the World Series, as he's failed to go six frames in three of four starts. Barry Zito, Tim Lincecum or Madison Bumgarner will start Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Matt Cain pitched pretty well but took the loss in Wednesday's NLCS Game 3, surrendering three runs over 6 2/3 frames. He allowed six hits, walked one and struck out two. Matt Carpenter took Cain deep with a two-out, two-run bomb in the third inning, and the Cards tacked on another run with an RBI groundout in the seventh. Cain has now lost two of three starts this postseason while posting a 4.67 ERA. He'll get the ball in Game 7, if necessary.

Matt Cain will start Game 3 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Wednesday. That was the assumption already, but it's now official. The real question is whether the Giants will go with Tim Lincecum or Barry Zito in Game 4. Cain allowed six runs in 10 2/3 innings (5.06 ERA) over two starts during the NLDS against the Reds. He currently lines up to pitch a possible Game 7 next Monday.

Matt Cain yielded three runs over 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a win over the Reds in Game 5 of the NLDS. Cain gave up six hits (including a solo home run by Ryan Ludwick) while striking out five, walking two and hitting a batter. He appeared to be on the ropes in the sixth inning, but was bailed out by a strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play. Cain allowed six runs over 10 2/3 innings over his two starts during the series.

Matt Cain struggled in a losing effort against the Reds in Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday, surrendering three runs on five hits over his five innings of work. Cain fanned four and walked one. He tossed just 75 pitches in the contest before being removed for a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning. All of the damage came via the long ball, with Brandon Phillips slugging a two-run homer in the third inning and Jay Bruce adding a solo shot in the fourth. It was the first time Cain had been scored upon in his postseason career, as he entered the night having tossed 21 1/3 innings straight shutout frames. With the limited pitch count, it's possible that the Giants could bring him back for a potential Game 4.
