Matt Cain allowed just one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings in Sunday night's win over the Dodgers. It was a much needed win for Cain, who had allowed a combined 14 runs in his last three starts. He likely wouldn't have allowed any runs if he had stayed in the game, but he left with a man on base and the Giants' bullpen wasn't able to bail him out. Cain had three walks on the night and finished with four strikeouts. His next start will come Friday against the Braves.

Matt Cain served up three homers in one inning but survived to take a no-decision in Monday's 6-4 victory over the Diamondbacks. Cain walked four on the night, but he struck out six and was pretty effective outside of a horrible fourth inning. The right-hander has now given up nine homers in 34 2/3 innings this season and has a 6.49 ERA and 1.30 WHIP for the year. We see no reason Cain won't turn it around, though, and he should be in fantasy lineups this weekend against the Dodgers.

Matt Cain yielded four runs -- three earned -- in six innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks. Cain gave the Giants a better showing tonight, finishing the game with five hits allowed, one walk and six strikeouts. He has been shelled twice this season and he's still winless after five starts, but we're hardly overly concerned.

Matt Cain was hammered for seven earned runs over six innings Thursday in a loss to the Brewers. The Giants are now 0-4 in Cain's four starts this season and the 28-year-old right-hander is sporting a brutal 7.15 ERA through 22 2/3 innings. He's claiming to be healthy, but it may be wise to bench Cain for now. The Diamondbacks line up as his next opponent.

Matt Cain was shelled for nine runs over 3 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Cain was uncharacteristically bad, but we can't image there will be many more games like this. He struggled with command of his fastball and even his breaking pitches were elevated and up around the plate. Cain is a strong candidate to get back on track in his next start Friday against the Cubs.

Matt Cain was removed after striking out eight in six scoreless innings Monday against the Dodgers. Cain matched zeroes with Clayton Kershaw, but he wasn't nearly as efficient; he threw just one fewer pitch in six innings than Kershaw did in nine (93-94). Still, it was a strong first outing for the right-hander. Seemingly fatigued, he never struck out more than five batters in any of his last six starts of last year.

Matt Cain struck out eight but allowed four runs over five innings against the Rockies Thursday. He permitted seven hits -- including a long home run to Wilin Rosario -- but didn't walk anyone. Cain holds a 4.50 ERA this spring to go along with a 17/3 K/BB ratio over 20 frames. He'll get the ball on Opening Day for the Giants.

Matt Cain looked to be in mid-season form in Friday's victory over the Rangers, scattering two hits over five scoreless innings. Cain struck out two and didn't walk a batter in the game. After struggling early on in camp, he has been lights-out over his last three outings and looks rearing to go for his Opening Day assignment. As tremendous as he was in 2012, Cain could be poised for even better things in 2013 if he can continue his rise in strikeout rate.

Matt Cain yielded one run on four hits over three innings in his start Sunday against the Brewers. He allowed just one walk and recorded four strikeouts. Cain has put together back-to-back solid outings and looks to be over his early struggles. The Giants have already named him as their Opening Day starter.

Matt Cain allowed three runs over three innings in Thursday's loss to the Mariners. Cain gave up four hits -- including a home run -- while striking out two and walking one. His line was a bit misleading, as Angel Pagan dropped a fly ball in center field which resulted in one run crossing the plate. After being hit in the knee by a comebacker during his last start, the most important thing is that he came away from the outing feeling good.
