Mark Teixeira (wrist) hopes to be cleared to begin swinging a bat on Friday.
Assuming all goes well, Teixeira could progress to live batting practice as soon as next weekend. He would likely move on to extended spring training games and a minor league rehab assignment from there. The veteran first baseman is shooting to return around May 1, but he still has many hurdles to cross in order to meet that optimistic goal.

Mark Teixeira is progressing well in his recovery from a strained right wrist and could return sooner than expected.
The Yankees have eyed late May to early June as Teixeira's potential return date, but the first baseman told MLB.com that he's shooting for May 1. Manager Joe Girardi didn't confirm that early May might be an option, but he was "optimistic in general" when speaking to the Newark Star-Ledger about Teixeira. "I hope that's a possibility," Girardi said of Teixeira returning on May 1. It's good that Teixeira is seeming to progress ahead of schedule, but keep in mind that he's yet to resume swinging a bat two-handed. It's hard to move up his timetable until he does that with no issues.

Mark Teixeira was given clearance Monday to remove the protective brace from his right wrist.
Teixeira still has to wear the brace during workouts, but it's another step forward in his rehab process. "It was the news I wanted to hear," said Teixeira. While the veteran first baseman hasn't had any setbacks, the Yankees aren't expecting him to join the lineup until late May or the early part of June.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) will visit doctors Monday and could be allowed to begin strengthening exercises.
Teixeira was diagnosed on March 6 with a tendon sheath injury in his right wrist. He will have the splint removed from that wrist if all goes well in Monday's checkup. The Yankees aren't expecting to have their starting first baseman until late May or early June.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) indicated Sunday that it's possible he could be out all of May.
Teixeira won't rush back, saying he could return anywhere from early May to early June. The first baseman revealed that the injury is to the tendon sheath in his right wrist, which is the same ailment Jose Bautista dealt with. Bautista underwent surgery, and it's possible Teixeira might eventually have to go under the knife.

Mark Teixeira was diagnosed with a strained right wrist and will miss 8-10 weeks.
Ouch. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Teixeira will be shut down completely for four weeks before rehabbing the wrist. The estimated timetable places his return somewhere in early-to-late May. The Yankees' current in-house alternatives for first base include Juan Rivera, Dan Johnson and Kevin Youkilis.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Mark Teixeira felt a "pop" in his right wrist and will be shut down for at least two weeks.
Cashman added that he is "very concerned" about the first baseman. The Yankees' initial diagnosis was a strained wrist, but Teixeira is headed back to New York for more tests, and it sounds like the injury could be fairly serious. An update on his status should be available before the end of the week.

Mark Teixeira is headed back to New York in order to undergo an MRI on his forearm.
The early word is that Teixeira has a strained forearm that will sideline him for the next 7-10 days, but the Yankees want to do more tests just to be safe. Assuming the MRI doesn't find more extensive damage, he'll have no trouble getting ready for the start of the regular season.
