Mark Teixeira (wrist) hopes to be cleared to begin swinging a bat on Friday. Assuming all goes well, Teixeira could progress to live batting practice as soon as next weekend. He would likely move on to extended spring training games and a minor league rehab assignment from there. The veteran first baseman is shooting to return around May 1, but he still has many hurdles to cross in order to meet that optimistic goal.
