Mark Teixeira (calf) will begin playing in instructional league games Monday in Tampa, Florida.
Teixeira has been out of the Yankees' lineup since aggravating his left calf strain on September 8. He's aiming to return for New York's final series in September and would seem to be on track to meet that goal. The first baseman has an .814 OPS, 23 homers and 81 RBI in 120 games played this season.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said during an appearance on Sirius XM radio on Tuesday that he hopes Mark Teixeira (calf) will return during a series against the Blue Jays from September 27-30.
Teixeira hasn't played since aggravating his left calf strain on September 8. The Yankees are hopeful he'll return before the end of the regular season, but Cashman categorized his recovery as "slow." "I don't he's close to getting back here," said Cashman. "I think we'll have a chance to get him back before the season's over ... maybe the Toronto series on the road, which is a little ways down the line here in that last week of the season." Nick Swisher and Steve Pearce will continue to fill in at first base for now.

Mark Teixeira will undergo an MRI on his ailing left calf.
Teixeira aggravated the injury on the final play of Saturday's loss to the Orioles. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the first baseman is likely to be sidelined at least until next weekend, but we should know more after the results of the MRI are revealed.

Mark Teixeira is not expected to play Sunday and his status beyond that is unclear after he aggravated his left calf in Saturday's loss to the Orioles.
Teixeira hurt himself on the final play of the game when he was erroneously called out at first base while trying to beat out a double play ball. "We'll see how it feels, but I'm probably not going to be able to go," Teixeira said Saturday. "We'll see in the morning. If you wait until you're 100 percent to play, you might not be able to play. I took 10 games off and felt like I was good enough. We have an off day (Monday), so we'll see where we are. I don't want to make any predictions." Nick Swisher and Steve Pearce will see time at first base while Teixeira is out.
