Mark Teixeira will undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist Monday.
Surgery was recommended earlier this week after doctors determined that the partially-torn tendon sheath in his wrist has not adequately healed. It's worth noting that Jose Bautista has been productive this season following the very same injury, but any procedure involving a hitter's wrist is troublesome. The 33-year-old first baseman is still owed $22.5 million per season from 2014-2016.

The Yankees announced Wednesday that surgery has been recommended for Mark Teixeira's right wrist.
Teixeira underwent an MRI on Wednesday, after which it was determined that the partially-torn tendon sheath in his wrist has not adequately healed. He's almost certainly headed for season-ending surgery at this point.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is scheduled to be examined by team doctors Tuesday.
This is just one day after Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Teixeira was still experiencing pain in his right wrist. "I'm concerned," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. We should know more soon, but the possibility of season-ending surgery could soon be on the table.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Monday that Mark Teixeira is still experiencing pain in his right wrist.
Which leaves open the possibility that Teixeira will require season-ending surgery. The first baseman was given a cortisone injection last week when he was placed on the disabled list but it's clearly not going to act as a long-term fix for his wrist discomfort. Teixeira has appeared in only 15 games this season for the Yankees.

Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with right wrist inflammation.
An MRI over the weekend didn't reveal any new damage in the wrist, but he was given a cortisone shot and will now get some extended rest. The Yankees are hopeful that he'll be able to play through the condition for the entire season, but the possibility of surgery still looms. Lyle Overbay will fill in at first base once again.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Monday that he is "leaning personally" toward placing first baseman Mark Teixeira (wrist) on the 15-day disabled list.
But nothing has been made official yet. Teixeira underwent an MRI this weekend in New York that showed only inflammation (and no new structural damage) in his troublesome right wrist, but he is having trouble swinging the bat with confidence and might be better off with a few more weeks of rest and rehab. Teixeira is hitting .151/.270/.340 in 15 games since his activation.

An MRI on Mark Teixeira's right wrist showed only inflammation.
Teixeira has been given a cortisone shot and will be re-evaluated in a few days. It's possible he'll still require a stint on the disabled list, but, at least for now, this certainly qualifies as good news. Teixeira had to exit Saturday's game after aggravating his wrist ailment.

Mark Teixeira left Saturday's game against the Angels with an aggravated right wrist.
The same wrist caused Teixeira to miss the first two months of the season. He'll see the team doctor in New York on Sunday for further examination. Yankees manager Joe Girardi already expressed an intent to give "Tex" a few days off to get right, so he'll miss Sunday's game at a minimum. This could be a serious setback.

Mark Teixeira left Saturday's game against the Angels in the fourth inning.
As a guest on the FOX broadcast, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Teixeira didn't "feel the snap" in his swing. Girardi also said he'll likely give the first baseman a few days off to rest. We'll see if anything more comes out about the nature of the injury after the game.
