Mark Teixeira is progressing well in his recovery from a strained right wrist and could return sooner than expected. The Yankees have eyed late May to early June as Teixeira's potential return date, but the first baseman told MLB.com that he's shooting for May 1. Manager Joe Girardi didn't confirm that early May might be an option, but he was "optimistic in general" when speaking to the Newark Star-Ledger about Teixeira. "I hope that's a possibility," Girardi said of Teixeira returning on May 1. It's good that Teixeira is seeming to progress ahead of schedule, but keep in mind that he's yet to resume swinging a bat two-handed. It's hard to move up his timetable until he does that with no issues.
