Mark Teixiera (wrist) said Tuesday that he expects to be back with the Yankees by June 1.
Teixiera previously set May 1 as a goal, but he wasn't able to hit as quickly as he first expected. However, he has made solid progress over the past few weeks and said Tuesday that his rehab is "going great." It's not clear when he'll be ready for a minor league rehab assignment, but he's getting closer.

Yankees transferred 1B Mark Teixeira from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Alberto Gonzalez. Teixeira won't be back from his wrist injury until sometime next month.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is expected to take live batting practice on the field Sunday.
It will be the first time he's done so since suffering a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. Teixeira hit soft toss and off a tee for the third straight day on Friday and is ready to test out the wrist further. After Sunday's BP, he'll report to the Yankees' spring training complex to continue his rehab. "I feel like I got over the hump with the last few, hitting soft toss," Teixeira said. "It's been really, really good to kind of let it go, and feel the ball off the bat."

Mark Teixeira (wrist) took batting practice in the cages at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.
Teixeira had been limited to dry swings only, so this is a notable step. It's unclear when he'll be ready to test out his wrist in batting practice on the field and the nin rehab games. Yankees manager Joe Girardi has expressed doubt that his first baseman will make it back before the end of May.

Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com reports that a return in late May for Mark Teixeira (wrist) is the "best case," but June "seems more likely."
Teixeira is currently limited to dry swings, and it's uncertain when he'll be cleared to hit off a tee or take soft tosses. Ultimately, his status will continue to be cloudy until we see how his wrist responds to increased activity. There's also no guarantee that Teixeira will be able to avoid surgery over the long haul.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is still limited to dry swings.
Teixeira originally hoped to return by May 1, but it's not even clear if he'll be ready to hit off a tee or take soft tosses by then. Fantasy owners have no choice but to be patient.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) acknowledged Tuesday that he will not be ready by May 1.
Teixeira initially aimed to be ready by May 1, but his wrist isn't loose enough for him to begin hitting, so he's finally ready to admit the obvious. "Obviously, I was being as optimistic as I could," said Teixeira. "I wish that the very first time I swung a bat, I'd be like, 'Wow, I feel 100 percent.' But the chances of that happening weren't there, but I was always going to hope for that and prepare for that." Teixeira was initially expected to miss 8-10 weeks, which places his return in mid-May. However, his timeline depends on how his wrist responds to increased activity, it's hard to predict when he'll be ready.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is not ready to hit soft-toss and has not been cleared for tee drills.
Teixeira hasn't suffered a setback, but he is not progressing very rapidly from his right wrist strain. "We are taking it slow," the first baseman acknowledged to reporters on Sunday. He had been aiming to return on May 1 but that obviously isn't going to happen.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) took swings underwater on Tuesday.
It's a way to ease him back into baseball activities following a partially torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. Things went well, as he's slated to progress to dry swings on Wednesday. According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Teixeira hopes to take batting practice in Toronto and work out in Tampa next week. His goal of returning by May 1 may be overly optimistic, but he's beginning to make significant progress.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) wasn't cleared to begin swinging a bat Friday as originally hoped.
Teixeira's latest timetable has him returning in early May, but it's sounds like this is at least a minor setback. Considering he's yet to play in a game this season, Teixeira will likely need a lengthy rehab assignment so he still has a lot of hurdles to cross in order to meet his optimistic goal. The Yankees will continue to go with Lyle Overbay and Kevin Youkilis in his absence.
