Mark Teixeira (hamstring) will take batting practice with the team on the field before Sunday's game against the Red Sox. Teixeira has made rapid progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury and expects to rejoin the lineup next Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Mark Teixeira (hamstring) said Saturday that he expects to come off the disabled list as soon as he's first eligible. That would mean he would rejoin the Yankees next Sunday in Tampa Bay. The Yankees could certainly use his big bat back in the lineup, as they've been struggling with a platoon of Kelly Johnson and Francisco Cervelli to fill the void at first base.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Friday that Mark Teixeira (hamstring) is likely to be activated from the disabled list prior to May 1. The veteran slugger is recovering from a Grade 1 hamstring strain that he suffered chasing down a foul pop up last week. Before hitting the DL, he was hitting .250/.308/.250 with two RBI in his first 12 at-bats.

Mark Teixeira (hamstring) has been limited to stretching and riding an exercise bike. There's no word on when Teixeira will be cleared to resume baseball activities. Nursing a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, it might be a push to expect the first baseman to return before the end of the month.

Mark Teixeira is dealing with a Grade 1 strain of his right hamstring. Teixeira suffered the injury on Friday night and was placed on the disabled list Saturday. It sounds like he could be back by the end of the month if all goes well. The Yankees will try to make due with Kelly Johnson as their primary first baseman for now.

Mark Teixeira went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday. In his first game action since June 15, Teixeira drove in his first run after notching just 12 RBI all of last year. His power may take a while to return -- Teixeira has admitted he still doesn't fully trust his surgically repaired right wrist -- but being back in the everyday lineup is a positive step for the 33-year-old.

Mark Teixeira admitted Thursday that he's still searching for his swing because he's "not trusting" that his surgically-repaired right wrist is healthy. "I'm just trying to protect it,'' said Teixeira, who is batting .091 this spring. "Taking your 'A' swing, taking that swing that is 100 percent and I need to trust that I can do that and not feel pain. I need to finish my swing instead of protecting my wrist. Last year, to protect my wrist, I didn't finish my swing.'' The good news is that Teixeira says the wrist is "is feeling good, it's getting stronger." However, he doesn't figure to be much of a fantasy option until he gets his swing back to pre-surgery form.

Mark Teixeira went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Sunday, leaving him with a .115 average this spring. At least that's still better than Derek Jeter's .114 mark. Teixeira is 3-for-26 with a double and eight walks. He'll flick some balls over the Yankee Stadium short porch once the season starts, but we don't trust him to hit for average or his old power as he continues his recovery from wrist surgery.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) was hitless in three at-bats in his Grapefruit League debut Thursday. Although he didn't get any hits, Teixeira was pleased with how things went. "Just being in a live game, seeing what it felt like to run around out there, see live pitching, swing at good pitches -- that was good," said Teixeira. "Make contact, get jammed, hit a ball off the end, do some of the things you'd do during the season. I did a lot of them today." Coming back from right wrist surgery, Teixeira will be ready to go on Opening Day.

Mark Teixeira (wrist) expressed some disappointment Tuesday after he only saw five pitches in his second live batting practice session of the spring. Teixeira is scheduled to make his spring debut on Thursday, so he was aiming to take regular batting practice on both Monday and Tuesday. However, because of scheduling issues, he took limited BP on Monday and had nobody to throw to him Tuesday. "I thought I was going to get a lot more work the last few days," said Teixeira. "But I just do what I am told." The good news is that the wrist seems to be doing fine.
