Taillon allowed two hits and one run (a solo homer) in two innings Saturday against the Braves, striking out two, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
EDGE Analysis
Often compared to Tyler Glasnow, Taillon believes his injuries have given him a chance to learn his craft. "I'm a little different than Glasnow just because I've had two years (while injured) to work on stuff," Taillon said. "He's had those two be competing. I need to work on competing; he might need to work on mechanics more. My goal this spring is to attack hitters and treat it like a major league game." Some in Pittsburgh management feel Taillon has a good chance making the major leagues sooner than Glasnow.

Taillon, who completed two innings of an intrasquad game Monday, is progressing well early in spring training. "More than anything, I'm excited that I'm not being treated differently and I'm moving along quickly," Taillon told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "In the back of my head I was a little worried that I would be throwing a little slower (routine) than most. But I'm pretty much on the same schedule as everybody else."
EDGE Analysis
He'll throw a bullpen session later in the week and then make a couple of appearances in the Grapefruit League. Taillon is expected to begin the season at Triple-A with a good chance of a midseason recall to Pittsburgh. He's missed much of the last two seasons, undergoing Tommy John surgery and hernia surgery. Early reports have Taillon throwing with the same velocity (96 mph) that he showed prior to getting hurt.

Taillon underwent surgery Wednesday to repair an inguinal hernia, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
It sounds like everything went as expected, as the Pirates are sticking to the initial two-month estimated recovery timetable for Taillon. The second overall pick in the 2010 first-year player draft, he appeared close to returning to a full-season affiliate following 2014 Tommy John surgery before the groin injury popped up.

Taillon will miss two months due to an inguinal hernia, the Pittsburgh Tribune's Travis Sawchik reports.
He will undergo surgery next week to tend to the issue, and while it is not an arm injury, it is still pretty brutal news for a player who was working diligently to return from Tommy John surgery. Taillon has been surpassed by Tyler Glasnow as the Pirates' top pitching prospect, but what Taillon had going in his favor was that he figured to beat Glasnow to the big leagues, but that may no longer be a guarantee. It would be surprising now if Taillon pitched for the Pirates this season, although it seems like he should have a good chance of entering camp fully healthy in 2016.

Taillon (elbow) is set to receive a second opinion to address his ongoing battle lower-abdominal discomfort, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Taillon's recovery from Tommy John surgery remains the more pertinent issue for the Pirates, but the abdominal injury has presented an unexpected roadblock in the rehab process. With the team still not able to properly determine the extent of the injury, Taillon will consult with other medical professionals to get a better understanding of the situation. Assuming the setback doesn't prove to be too significant, Taillon should eventually start up his throwing program again and attempt to make his way back to Triple-A Indianapolis before season's end.

Taillon (elbow) experienced lower-abdomen discomfort during his last outing, and he will be held out of game activity until further notice, MLB.com's Adam Berry reports.
Taillon has been making good progress on his way back from Tommy John surgery, even reaching the mid-to-high 90s with his fastball in recent appearances at extended spring training. Although the recent injury is unrelated to his elbow, it further decreases the already-slim chances of Taillon making a significant impact at the big-league level this season.

Taillon (elbow) threw 74 pitches without issue in a five-inning start at extended spring training.
Taillon continues to make good progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and it is entirely possible that he could be assigned to a minor league affiliate in the coming days. With a well-built pitch count, Taillon stands a good chance of being recalled by the Pirates sometime this summer, or perhaps in September, if they need to dip into the minor leagues for a starting pitcher.

Taillon (elbow) threw 61 pitches "without issue" during an extended spring training outing Saturday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Taillon appears to be on the verge of a rehab assignment, although a timeline for that has yet to be laid out. Even if the recovery goes exactly as planned, the right-hander is unlikely to see much time in the majors in 2015.

Taillon's fastball sat in the mid 90s and touched 97 mph in an extended spring training game against Philadelphia on Thursday, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Taillon continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. At some point the organization will place him with a minor-league team. It's possible -- though a longshot -- that he'll pitch in Pittsburgh in 2015. His innings and pitch count will both be closely monitored, wherever he ends up.

Taillon (elbow) three a two-inning simulated game Saturday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Taillon continues to make progress with his recovery from Tommy John surgery, with this being one of his most significant steps. An early-June return to the rotation at Triple-A Indianapolis remains realistic at this point.
