Manager Clint Hurdle was non committal Tuesday regarding whether Taillon would stick in the big league rotation after Wednesday's start against the Mets, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Paul Zeise reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hurdle apparently made it clear Tuesday that it isn't a guarantee, or even probable, that Taillon will remain on the big league club after he duels with Noah Syndergaard on Wednesday. He was called up because the Pirates needed six starters in five days thanks to Tuesday's doubleheader, and it happened to fit Taillon's schedule to come up and pitch, while also giving Francisco Liriano a couple extra days of rest. Owners should be aware that this could be just a spot start, but it should also be obvious that the Pirates could use a boost in the rotation, so if Taillon impresses Wednesday, he'll likely get more big league starts in the near future.

Taillon is expected to be recalled to start Wednesday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
The Pirates' top pitching prospect has been nothing short of dominant at Triple-A Indianapolis this season, working a 2.04 ERA with a microscopic .82 WHIP over 61.2 innings of work. He has also notched 61 strikeouts against just six walks, and now it appears that the Pirates feel he's ready for the show. The roster move has not been made official at this point, but the Pirates are expected to call him up before Wednesday's contest. Provided that the Pirates follow through with their plan to recall Taillon, he'd be making his big league debut against New York's Noah Syndergaard.

The Pirates have no plans to recall Taillon for a start Wednesday, his next scheduled turn in Triple-A. "He's well ahead of our internal projections of where we thought he'd be," Gm Neal Huntington told DK Pittsburgh Sports on Sunday. "He's getting closer. We're not 100 percent comfortable (moving him into the rotation) at this point, but we're getting close."
EDGE Analysis
Taillon, who has surpassed fellow prospect Tyler Glasnow in the pecking order for a promotion, could debut for Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 14 against the Mets in New York. He's compiled a 2.04 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 61:6 K:BB in 61.2 innings for Triple-A Indianapolis..

Taillon's next start for Triple-A Indianapolis will be skipped as part of the organization's plan to keep his pitch count down this season, the Pittsburgh Tribune's Rob Biertempfel reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Neil Huntington said Taillon is healthy, and this is just part of the plan to allow him to pitch later in the season. There is no official innings cap on Taillon for 2016, but obviously his fantasy owners would prefer him to use whatever innings he has left in the big leagues, as he appears to be in cruise control at Triple-A. Taillon, who boasts a 1.82 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 51:5 K:BB in 49.1 innings, is worthy of a stash in most mixed leagues at this point, as a call-up could be coming in the first half.

Taillon, 24, has a 1.82 ERA and 51:5 K:BB through 49.1 innings for Triple-A Indianapolis.
EDGE Analysis
Taillon's most recent start was a gem, as he tossed six scoreless innings Thursday. The burly righty scattered five hits, did not walk a batter while fanning eight. It seems as though Taillon is finally all the way back from his various injuries, and he should make his MLB debut this summer.

Taillon threw six shutout innings of one-hit ball Saturday, striking out six while walking none.
EDGE Analysis
GM Neal Huntington said Sunday he was impressed by Taillon and his control (16:0 K:BB). "How can you not be?" Huntington asked. "We're very encouraged by where he is right now. It's just a matter of continuing to repeat it before he's in position to help us (the Pirates) at some point this season." The 24-year-old has compiled a 1.65 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in three starts (16.1 innings) for Triple-A Indianapolis. There's a good chance he'll earn a recall after the Super 2 arbitration date passes if he continues to excel in Indy.

The Pirates haven't decided whether Taillon will be under an innings limit in 2016. "We're going to treat him like any other pitcher," trainer Todd Tomczyk told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "We will monitor his recovery on a daily basis throughout the year to see if an innings threshold needs to be done or not."
EDGE Analysis
Pittsburgh will be careful with Taillon, who last pitched in a professional game Sept. 1, 2013 for Triple-A Indianapolis. The righty got off to a strong start Tuesday, allowing just one run in six innings, striking out six without walking a batter.

Taillon made his first start in two years Wednesday for Triple-A Indianapolis, allowing one run over six innings on five hits while striking out six and walking none.
EDGE Analysis
Baseball America's Ben Badler reports that Taillon was operating at 90-94 mph with his fastball, and was getting swings and misses on both his heater and his secondary pitches. His curveball looked particularly sharp -- a pitch that profiles as Taillon's best weapon now that his fastball velocity is no longer in the high 90s. If Taillon continues to show polish and effectiveness in his upcoming starts for Indianapolis, the Pirates should give him a look in the big league rotation sometime this summer.

Pittsburgh reassigned Taillon to minor-league camp Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The Pirates appear excited about potentially adding Taillon to the rotation at some point in 2016, but the reality is that he hasn't faced batters in game action in more than two years. He went 5-10 with a 3.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 143:52 K:BB ratio in 147.1 minor league innings in 2013. He's a wild card with a wide range of potential outcomes in 2016.

Taillon allowed two hits and one run (a solo homer) in two innings Saturday against the Braves, striking out two, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
EDGE Analysis
Often compared to Tyler Glasnow, Taillon believes his injuries have given him a chance to learn his craft. "I'm a little different than Glasnow just because I've had two years (while injured) to work on stuff," Taillon said. "He's had those two be competing. I need to work on competing; he might need to work on mechanics more. My goal this spring is to attack hitters and treat it like a major league game." Some in Pittsburgh management feel Taillon has a good chance making the major leagues sooner than Glasnow.
