The 24-year-old hurler scattered five hits while walking two in the game. Unfortunately, his bullpen wasn't able to hold on to the two-run advantage to earn him a victory. While he's compiled a disappointing 5.79 ERA and 1.74 WHIP through his first 32 2/3 innings, starts like this show his potential and give the Rays reason to keep him in the rotation. He'll look for more of the same when he takes on the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday.

After his last start, we noted that he had a 1.20 ERA in his first three innings of games and a 15.58 ERA afterwards. Now it's 1.00 and 18.62. He needs to be pulled from the rotation. The only difference between tonight and his previous starts was that Odorizzi actually have up a couple of runs in the second inning; he hadn't allowed a run in the first three innings of any of his previous four starts this season. His time in the rotation could come to an end soon, but at least he might be pretty useful as a reliever if current trends hold.
