Jake Odorizzi was shelled for seven earned runs over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.
Odorizzi had a strong debut last week against the Rangers and looked good in the early going on Wednesday in Kansas City, but the Royals popped him for two runs in the fourth inning and a five-spot in the fifth inning. Odorizzi is now 1-1 on the year with a 5.73 ERA. More ups and downs should be expected.

Jake Odorizzi gave up three runs in five-plus innings Tuesday versus the Red Sox in his first start since being named the Rays' fifth starter.
Odorizzi allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five. He should be a decent AL-only starter until Jeremy Hellickson rejoins the Rays.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Jake Odorizzi will be the team's fifth starter.
Odorizzi battled Erik Bedard and Cesar Ramos for the spot, and the right-hander won the job with a strong spring. Ramos will remain with the club as a reliever, while Bedard will be assigned to Triple-A. Despite his prospect status and the fact that he'll pitch for a good team, Odorizzi isn't much more than an AL-only option at this point.

Jake Odorizzi was credited with a win after allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings in his start versus the Pirates on Saturday.
Odorizzi walked three in his longest appearance of the spring. The Rays have gone slower with him than with their other fifth starter candidates, but he still appears to have a legitimate chance at the job. He has a 2.25 ERA and a 5/5 K/BB ratio in eight innings.

Jake Odorizzi allowed one run and two hits in 2 1/3 innings against Red Sox regulars on Monday.
It was Odorizzi's first start after two one-inning relief appearances this spring. He seemed like the obvious choice to step into Tampa Bay's rotation after Jeremy Hellickson went down, but it's clear he still has a fight ahead of him for the spot. If he gets it, he'll be worth playing in AL-only leagues.

Jake Odorizzi could start for the Rays in Friday night's series-opener at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Rays are considering starting Odorizzi in place of Jeremy Hellickson, who has looked shaky in three straight outings. Odorizzi, 23, posted a 3.03 ERA and 135/50 K/BB ratio in 145 1/3 innings this year in the Rays' minor league system. He hasn't been as effective in the bigs.

Rays optioned RHP Jake Odorizzi to Double-A Montgomery.
Odorizzi pitched well in a spot start Thursday, allowing one run over five innings. However, with Matt Moore (elbow) return on Tuesday, there was no need to keep him around. He'll be back next month, though.

Jake Odorizzi allowed just one run but last only five innings in Thursday's loss to the Angels.
He gave up four hits, walked two and struck out three, requiring 83 pitches to cover the five frames. Odorizzi now holds a 5.09 ERA over 23 major league innings this season and will now likely slide into a long relief role with Matt Moore (elbow) due back next week.

Rays recalled RHP Jake Odorizzi from Triple-A Durham.
Odorizzi will start for the Rays on Thursday afternoon against the Angels. It will probably be nothing more than a spot start because Matt Moore (elbow) is on track to return from the disabled list next week.
