Odorizzi turned in yet another solid performance, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, walking two and striking out seven over seven innings of a 4-1 loss to Seattle on Monday night. Odorizzi (3-5, 2.31 ERA) can't buy any run support as his mates have scored two or fewer runs in nine of his 2015 starts. Despite that he has been both proficient and efficient, and will hope more help from the offense is on the way.

Odorizzi bounced back from his illness and delivered 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts and only one earned run, but didn't get the win. Odorizzi is now averaging 6.8 innings per start with a 2.09 ERA and .908 WHIP. He's looking like a true success from the Rays' pitching development and they'll need it if they want to continue challenging for the AL East, given Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly's injuries.

Odorizzi (illness) relayed that he felt "a lot better" Saturday and has been cleared to start Sunday against the Rangers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Odorizzi was bumped back from Saturday's start after his body had been weakened by the illness, but he never deviated from his routine, as he was able to play catch each of the last few days. Manager Kevin Cash doesn't believe Odorizzi will face any restrictions Sunday, so he looks like a safe activation against the Rangers, who rank 25th in the MLB with a .293 wOBA for the season.

Odorizzi struck out six and did not walk a batter while holding the Red Sox to one run on seven hits over seven innings Monday night. In a very difficult road matchup at Fenway Park, Odorizzi delivered in a big way to earn his third victory of the season. He's now toting a 32:8 K:BB over 40.2 innings through six starts, helping to shoulder the workload in the Rays' rotation while Drew Smyly and Alex Cobb opened the season on the DL. While he's cruising thus far, Odorizzi has not allowed a home run this season after serving up 20 over 168 innings a year ago, and he's also benefited from a BABIP (.241) that is more than 40 points below his career mark (.284). Even with those underlying blemishes, Odorizzi's improved control has been a big part of his early-season gains (1.8 BB/9).
