Gio Gonzalez tossed just his second career complete game in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros, scattering nine hits and two walks while striking out seven.
He also launched his first career home run, a two-run shot off Armando Galarraga in the second. Gonzalez has looked much more like the good pitcher he was for the A's the past two months than the absolutely dominant one he was for the Nationals in April and May, but is still sporting an excellent 3.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 154/54 K/BB ratio through 141 frames. He'll get the Giants in San Francisco on Monday.

Gio Gonzalez struck out 10 Marlins on Friday, but allowed four runs on nine hits over eight innings in a losing effort.
Gonzalez was cruising along until the sixth inning, where the Carlos Lee delivered a two-run single, then scored on an RBI single from Donovan Solano. Lee struck again, driving home Jose Reyes with an RBI bounce out in the eighth inning. He has been very shaky in five starts since the All-Star break, compiling a 1-3 record and 4.75 ERA. He'll attempt to right the ship when he battles the Astros in Houston on Thursday.

Gio Gonzalez was lousy in Sunday's 11-10, 11-inning win over the Brewers, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and five walks in six innings of work.
Gonzalez will finish July having allowed four or more runs in three of his six starts. He recorded more than 18 outs just once. The sudden reversion to his (still good) A's form ballooned his ERA from 2.78 to 3.27. Gonzalez should remain an excellent fantasy option down the stretch, just not the elite one he was earlier in the year. He'll get the Marlins at home Friday.

Gio Gonzalez was tagged for six runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Mets on Thursday.
Matched up against the NL's only other 12-game winner in R.A. Dickey, Gonzalez faltered today. He gave up homers to David Wright and Ike Davis, and he also walked three, though one of those was intentional. It was his shortest outing of the year and the first time he hasn't struck out at least four batters (he had just two K's).
