Gio Gonzalez went two hitless innings Monday evening in the Nationals' 6-4 defeat of the Mets. It was a smooth spring debut for Gonzalez, who allowed a walk but fanned three batters. The lefty registered a stellar 2.89 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 207/76 K/BB ratio in 199 1/3 innings last season. He's a front-line fantasy starter.

Gio Gonzalez announced to the media on Friday that his recent blood and urine tests, taken two days after he was linked to Anthony Bosch and the Biogenesis clinic, have come back clean. Gonzalez is adamant that he has never taken any performance-enhancing drugs of any kind, and recent reports from ESPN show that there is no proof he received any banned substances from Biogenesis. The 27-year-old lefty could see his stock surge in fantasy drafts now that the likelihood of an impending suspension has diminished.

Mike Fish and T.J. Quinn of ESPN.com report that Gio Gonzalez did not receive banned substances from Anthony Bosch or the Biogenesis clinic. Gonzalez was previously identified in the Biogenesis documents, but this most recent report says that the $1,000 worth of substances he received from Bosch were not of the performance-enhancing variety. Rather, the substances were a legal combination of things usually used for weight loss. It's possible the substances were for Gonzalez's father, Max, who has also been listed in Biogenesis documents.

Gio Gonzalez may not join Team USA until the second round of the World Baseball Classic. Waiting until the second round would give Gonzalez three or four opportunities to pitch in Grapefruit League games with the Nationals before he is asked to pitch in the tournament. It would also save him from having to travel to Arizona, as the tournament shifts to Miami for second round action.

Gio Gonzalez had blood and urine samples taken two days after being linked to the Biogenesis clinic. It's unclear whether Gonzalez offered up the samples or MLB asked for them. The 27-year-old left-hander has firmly denied any past performance-enhancing drug use and remains an elite fantasy starter heading into 2013. MLB officials are currently investigating Biogenesis.

Gio Gonzalez said upon arriving to Nationals' camp on Tuesday that he has never taken performance-enhancing drugs. Gonzalez was one of several players linked to Biogenesis, a Miami-area clinic which allegedly distributed performance-enhancing drugs. MLB is currently investigating the matter, but Gonzalez said Tuesday that he feels "very confident" about his case. The 27-year-old southpaw is set to pitch for Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

The Washington Post reports that Gio Gonzalez will pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. It's a bit of a surprising decision, as Gonzalez is still under investigation for his alleged connection to performance-enhancing drugs. As it currently stands, Gonzalez will join a pitching staff that includes R.A. Dickey, Derek Holland, and Ryan Vogelsong, with Justin Verlander reportedly still considering his offer to play in the tournament. Team USA players are tentatively scheduled to report to training camp on March 3.

MLB officials plan on interviewing all the players linked to performance-enhancing drugs by the story published in the Miami New Times Tuesday. Gio Gonzalez, Alex Rodriguez and Nelson Cruz, among others, were all named in the story as having a link to the Biogenesis clinic. League officials will first travel to Florida to meet with editors of the Miami paper in hopes of acquiring documents linking the players to performance-enhancing drugs. No suspensions have been handed out in connection with the report as of yet.

Gio Gonzalez released a statement via his Twitter account on Tuesday to deny a report which connected him to an anti-aging clinic in Miami which distributed performance-enhancing drugs. "I've never used performance-enhancing drugs of any kind, and I never will," said Gonzalez. "I've never met or spoken with Tony Bosch or used any substances provided by him. Anything said to the contrary is a lie." Per a Miami New Times report, Gonzalez's name appears five times in the notebooks of the clinic's director, Anthony Bosch. Gonzalez's dad, Max, also appears on the client lists and was interviewed as part of the story, but he denied that his son had ever been in contact with Bosch.

Gio Gonzalez battled a bout of wildness in a no-decision against the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS on Friday, surrendering three runs on five hits over his five innings of work. Gonzalez also walked four on the evening while striking out five. He cruised into the fifth inning with a 6-1 lead, but lost command of the strike zone. A pair of hits, two walks (one with the bases loaded) and a wild pitch allowed two runs to score in the frame. Fortunately, he was able to strand the bases loaded by getting Yadier Molina on a fly out to right on his final pitch of the night. Still, he left the game with a 6-3 lead and would've earned the victory if not for an epic meltdown in the ninth inning.
