Gio Gonzalez walked seven batters over five innings Sunday in the Nationals' NLDS Game 1 defeat of the Cardinals. Gonzalez operated well in damage control, allowing just one hit and two earned runs. He was lifted after throwing 110 pitches and the Washington bullpen held the Redbirds scoreless the rest of the way. The Nationals are up 1-0 in the five-game division series.

Davey Johnson officially announced the Nationals' NLDS rotation on Saturday, with Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann starting the first two games in St. Louis. Those two were pretty much set in stone from the get-go. Edwin Jackson will get the call when the Nationals host their first ever postseason game for Game 3, and Ross Detwiler will round out the rotation in the fourth contest if necessary.

Gio Gonzalez will start Game 1 of the NLDS. It was probably an easy decision for Nationals manager Davey Johnson. Gonzalez, a candidate for the NL Cy Young Award, has registered a sparkling 2.89 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 207/76 K/BB ratio across 199 1/3 innings this season. Jordan Zimmermann will start Game 2 for Washington, then it'll be either Edwin Jackson or Ross Detwiler in Game 3.

Gio Gonzalez will not start Tuesday night against the Phillies. The Nationals wrapped up the National League East on Tuesday night thanks to a loss by the Braves, so they are now focused on setting up their rotation for the NLDS. Gonzalez will finish the regular season with 21 wins, a 2.89 ERA and 207 strikeouts over 199 1/3 innings. He should get plenty of votes for the National League Cy Young Award. Tom Gorzelanny will make the start in his place Tuesday.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Gio Gonzalez would likely be his Game 1 starter in the postseason. Gonzalez seems to be the obvious call to get the ball in the NLDS opener after notching 21 victories, a 2.89 ERA and 207/76 K/BB ratio over 199 1/3 innings in the regular season. Jordan Zimmermann is likely to start Game 2.

Gio Gonzalez delivered another strong performance en route to his MLB-leading 21st victory on Thursday, limiting the Marlins to three runs on six hits over six frames. Gonzalez also issued three walks and struck out six on the evening. All of the damage came in the first inning, where Darin Ruf smashed a two-out, three-run double. He was able to settle in nicely afterwards, blanking the Marlins over the next five innings. On the same day that R.A. Dickey won his 20th game, Gonzalez stayed a step ahead and strengthened his case for the NL Cy Young award. Depending on how the Nationals structure their post-season rotation, in all likelihood this was his final start of the regular season.

Gio Gonzalez was outstanding in Saturday's victory over the red-hot Brewers, surrendering just two unearned runs on three hits over seven strong innings. Gonzalez fanned five while walking just one in the contest. With the victory, he becomes the first hurler in the MLB this season to reach the 20-win plateau. He's had a tremendous season in his first year with the Nationals, posting a 20-8 record, 2.84 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 201/73 K/BB ratio in 193 1/3 innings. He'll look to further strengthen his case for the NL Cy Young award when he does battle against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Gio Gonzalez failed in his first attempt at win No. 20 after allowing two runs in five innings Sunday against the Braves. Gonzalez retired the final eight batters he faced after a sloppy start, so that was something. The Nationals weren't able to support him tonight, though. Gonzalez is 19-8 with a 2.95 ERA.

Gio Gonzalez hurled seven scoreless innings Wednesday in the Nationals' 9-1 rout of the Cubs. Gonzalez carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and wound up allowing just three total hits in the game. He struck out nine, walked none, and lowered his ERA from 3.10 to 2.98. The right-hander is a legitimate candidate for Cy Young Award honors in the National League.

Gio Gonzalez held the Mets to one run on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings Sunday, improving to 16-6 in Washington's 5-2 victory. Gonzalez struck out three, walked two and needed 110 pitches to record his 17 outs. Gonzalez has been pedestrian since the All-Star break, posting a 3.83 ERA in 51 2/3 innings, but has won four of eight starts for his fantasy owners. He'll bring a 3.23 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 161/58 K/BB ratio into his weekend outing in Philadelphia.
