Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Athletics are "moving closer" to trading left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Olney hears that the bidding is down to two teams and confirms that the Nationals are one of them. He speculates that the Red Sox or Marlins could be the other. Gonzalez, 26, is under team control through 2015, so the asking price is expected to be substantial. Bill Ladson of MLB.com reported Wednesday that the Nationals were talking about a package which included right-hander Brad Peacock and prospect catcher Derek Norris.

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that trying to acquire Athletics' left-hander Gio Gonzalez is the Nationals' top priority.
The Athletics want four players in return and Ladson hears that right-hander Brad Peacock and prospect catcher Derek Norris are among them. Gonzalez, 26, is under team control through 2015, so the asking price is expected to be significant. The Red Sox and Blue Jays are among the teams who have also expressed interest. If the Nationals are unable to land the southpaw, they would likely move on to pursue free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Nationals are "pushing hard" to acquire left-hander Gio Gonzalez from the Athletics.
According to Rosenthal, the two sides are discussing a four-for-one deal, which is akin to how the Reds landed right-hander Mat Latos from Padres over the weekend. However, it's not yet known which players are being discussed from Washington's side. Gonzalez, 26, has drawn interest from multiple teams this winter, including the Rangers, Red Sox, Marlins, Blue Jays, Royals and Tigers.

According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Mets are unlikely to pursue Athletics' left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported last week that New York was in the mix for the southpaw, but one team official told Martino that talks never advanced past the preliminary phases. The Mets are in the process of restocking their farm system for a run when their young pitchers are ready for the big leagues, so it's unlikely they'll deal multiple prospects for a top starting pitcher. Gonzalez is drawing interest from several teams this offseason and talks could accelerate once the dust settles from the Yu Darvish situation.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Tigers are on the "outskirts" of the pursuit of the Athletics' Gio Gonzalez and are "not real upbeat about their chances."
It's hard to believe if the Tigers were willing to part with Jacob Turner that they wouldn't at least be in the thick of things, so perhaps they're not willing to give up Turner after all. With the number of teams interested -- the Mets, Mariners, Marlins, Reds, Red Sox, Rangers and Nationals have all showed degrees of interest -- Gonzalez seems likely to be moved this winter.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Tigers are willing to trade pitching prospect Jacob Turner in a deal for the Athletics' Gio Gonzalez.
Turner is one of the better pitching prospects in the game and would be a fine centerpiece in a deal for the left-hander. As Heyman notes, the competition for Gonzalez is stiff, but the Tigers might be in the driver's seat if they're indeed willing to part with their top trade chip. The Mets, Mariners, Marlins, Reds, Red Sox, Rangers and Nationals are among the teams interested in Gonzalez.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets and Mariners have joined the hunt for Gio Gonzalez.
The A's have dangled Gonzalez all winter, but their asking price remains sky-high and all trade offers to this point have come up short. The 26-year-old southpaw posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.32 WHIP this year while striking out 197 batters over 202 innings. He's also drawing interest from the Marlins, Reds, Red Sox, Rangers, Nationals and Tigers.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Tigers would be willing to part with prospect right-hander Jacob Turner in a potential deal for Athletics' left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Athletics general manager Billy Beane is said to be "enamored" with Turner, who had a 3.44 ERA and 110/35 K/BB ratio over 131 innings this past season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. However, the price tag for Gonzalez remains incredibly high. The A's requested the Tigers to also include prospect third baseman Nick Castellanos and left-hander Drew Smyly in the deal and even asked the Marlins about Mike Stanton at last week's Winter Meetings. Gonzalez is under team control through 2015, so Oakland can afford to wait if they don't find an offer to their liking. According to Knobler, the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Rangers are among the other teams expressing interest.

The Blue Jays are targeting A's lefty Gio Gonzalez, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to Slusser, the Athletics seek "at least two high-value prospects and a few mid-range prospects" in exchange for the 26-year-old left-hander. The Blue Jays have one of the deepest farm systems in the game, but it's unclear whether they will be willing to give up more than one of their top prospects in a potential deal. The Rangers, Nationals, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Royals, Marlins, Reds and Yankees have also expressed some degree of interest in the lefty. Gonzalez is under team control through 2015. The southpaw posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while striking out 197 batters over 202 innings this past season.

The interest in Gio Gonzalez and Andrew Bailey continues to be intense, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.
Oakland is looking to acquire younger, less expensive players, and Gonzalez and Bailey remain in high-demand. The Rangers, Blue Jays, Nationals, and Marlins, are listed as teams targeting Gonzalez, while the Red Sox and Rays are among the clubs interested in Bailey. Rosenthal notes that the Athletics recent trade of righthander Trevor Cahill will not impact their ability to move all three pitchers this offseason.
