White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper indicated Sunday that Felipe Paulino is pitching without any restrictions.
The 30-year-old hurler has a strong chance of making the Opening Day rotation as long as he makes it through the spring healthy. His ability to generate strikeouts makes him appealing in all fantasy formats.

White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper noted Sunday that Felipe Paulino has a "real good chance" at earning a spot in the White Sox Opening Day rotation.
The highly-talented 30-year-old missed the entire 2013 season due to shoulder injuries. Before the injury, he had a major breakout with the Royals in 2012, where he posted a 1.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39/15 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings. He makes for a very intriguing flyer in mixed league drafts.

No word yet on the terms of the agreement. Paulino sat out for the entire 2013 season due to shoulder issues, but he's expected to carry a clean bill of health into the spring of 2014 and is capable of a big bounceback summer. The 30-year-old righty had a 1.67 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings with the Royals in 2012.

Royals activated RHP Felipe Paulino from the 60-day disabled list.
Paulino underwent surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September, an operation that included a cyst removal from the back of his shoulder and also rotator cuff and labrum cleaning up. While Paulino expects to be fine by spring training, it's possible that he could be non-tendered.

Felipe Paulino underwent surgery on his right shoulder last week.
Paulino had a cyst removed from the back of his shoulder and also had his rotator cuff and labrum cleaned up. "They first tried to decompress the nerve, and when they went inside, they found a big cyst in the back of my shoulder that was pinching my nerve. That's what was causing my weakness and soreness in my shoulder," Paulino said. "He removed that and everything was good. I'm good right now, because he also cleaned out my rotator cuff, my labrum and everything around it. I expect to be back and playing catch again in two weeks." While Paulino expects to be fine by spring training, it's possible that he could be non-tendered.

Felipe Paulino (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Omaha Friday.
Paulino's recovery from Tommy John surgery has been stalled by back and shoulder issues, but he's back on track. The righty should should the Royals sometime next month. "I'm a little off mechanically, but that's normal," Paulino said. "I haven't pitched much in a long time, but I'm focused on working those mechanics. Everything - back, shoulder, elbow - feels good, so I'm happy with where I'm at right now."

Felipe Paulino (elbow, shoulder) threw a successful two-inning simulated game on Thursday.
"He threw the ball well," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Good zip on his fastball, good breaking ball. Command was a little inconsistent like you would expect it to be, but he threw the ball well." Paulino has had a couple starts and stops in the rehab from Tommy John surgery, but he now appears to be back on track. He'll throw one more simulated game Monday before resuming a rehab assignment.
