Adam Wainwright had a rare clunker Friday night, giving up seven runs over just 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Giants.
Not surprisingly, it was his shortest outing of the season. Wainwright was touched up for eight hits (including a three-run homer by Hunter Pence) before being pulled. His ERA jumped from 1.67 to 2.32 with the poor outing. Look for him to rebound next week against the Royals in Kansas City.

Adam Wainwright delivered another dazzling performance in Sunday's victory over the Reds, matching his career-high with 12 strikeouts while hurling eight shutout innings.
Wainwright allowed just five hits and a walk in the impressive performance. All five hits allowed were singles, and there was very little in the way of hard contact against him the entire night. He now boasts an 8-2 record on the season with an outstanding 1.67 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 77/16 K/BB ratio through his first 81 innings. He'll look to continue that domination when he does battle against the Giants at home on Friday.

Adam Wainwright absolutely rolled over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, throwing a one-hit shutout en route to a 5-0 victory.
The only blemish on the night was a two-out double by Paul Goldschmidt in the fourth inning. Otherwise, Wainwright was brilliant. The right-hander didn't walk a batter while striking out nine, and he faced just one batter over the minimum. With all his accomplishments, Tuesday's outing was the first one-hit shutout of his career. He leads the National League with seven wins and is among the league leaders in most every pitching category. He'll take a 1.85 ERA and 0.86 WHIP into Sunday's start at the Reds.

Adam Wainwright limited the Cubs to two runs on seven hits over six innings but settled for a no-decision on Tuesday.
It wasn't a typical Wainwright start, as he gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out four. He allowed a two-run home run to Luis Valbuena for the only damage. Even with the no-decision, the right-hander continues to be among the National League leaders in most every pitching category, and he'll carry a 2.11 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 56/15 K/BB ratio into his start Sunday against his former organization, the Braves.

Adam Wainwright hit his first speed bump of the season Friday, coughing up six runs on 10 hits and two walks over five frames in a loss to the Cubs.
Wainwright appeared to catch a bad break in the first inning when a Luis Valbuena double appeared to be foul. However, there's no getting around the fact that he didn't have his good stuff in this one, as he needed a whopping 110 pitches just to cover the five frames. Still boasting a 2.16 ERA, Waino will try to bounce back next week in Atlanta.

Adam Wainwright (knee) threw his regular between-starts bullpen session on Thursday with no issues.
Wainwright exited Tuesday's start with a hyperextended knee, but he's felt better every day since and is in no danger of missing Sunday's outing. The tall right-hander is off to a fantastic start this season, boasting a 1.46 ERA and 35/9 K/BB ratio over his first 37 innings.

Adam Wainwright (knee) completed a normal workout without issue on Wednesday.
Wainwright hyperextended his right knee during the seventh inning of Tuesday's game, leaving after 79 pitches. He said after the game that he expects to make his next start, and he reiterated that again Wednesday. Whether he does is ultimately up to manager Mike Matheny and the Cardinals training staff, but he appears to have avoided anything serious, at the very least.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said after Tuesday's game that there's no sign of any ligament damage in Adam Wainwright's right knee and the pitcher is not expected to undergo any tests.
The skipper also added that Waino's strength and mobility checked out OK. The big right-hander exited Tuesday's start with a hyperextended right knee after stumbling awkwardly while trying to field a chopper. Wainwright said he expects be fine for his next outing, but we probably won't know officially until after his between-starts bullpen session.
