Adam Wainwright limited the Dodgers to one run over eight innings but took a tough-luck loss in a 1-0 setback on Thursday. Wainwright scattered five hits, whiffed seven, and walked one. The run he did allow in the eighth was tissue soft: Single to center, sacrifice, infield single, RBI single to left. Waino ended that frame with two strikeouts. He's completed at least six innings in 14 of 16 outings, and ranks second in the majors behind Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto (1.86) with a 2.01 ERA. Wainwright has allowed just three runs in his last 29 innings. The veteran travels to San Francisco next week.

Adam Wainwright limited the Phillies to one run over eight innings in Saturday's 4-1 victory. It was his first start since being diagnosed June 11 with elbow tendinitis and he looked like his old familiar self, striking out seven batters without issuing a walk in an easy 104-pitch outing. Wainwright is now 10-3 on the season with a 2.08 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 98/21 K/BB ratio in 108 1/3 innings. He'll pitch at Dodger Stadium next.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) has been officially cleared to start on Saturday against the Phillies. Wainwright missed his last turn due to tendinitis in his pitching elbow, but he had a shot last week and got through a bullpen session Wednesday with no issues. It's something to keep an eye on over the long haul, but fantasy owners should feel free to start him this weekend with no reservations.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday. Wainwright had his last outing skipped due to tendinitis in his pitching elbow, but MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch says "there is still every expectation" the righty will be ready to start Saturday. The veteran right-hander should be officially cleared to face the Phillies over the weekend if he gets through Wednesday's 'pen session with no issues.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) will not make his scheduled start Monday night against the Mets. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak made the announcement Saturday, calling it a "precautionary" move. Wainwright underwent an MRI on his sore right elbow earlier this week that showed no ligament damage, and the St. Louis medical staff believes he's dealing with something similar to tennis elbow. The hope is he'll be ready for his next turn. Monday's starter for the Cardinals is too-be-determined.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) will do some throwing Saturday before the Cardinals determine whether he'll make his scheduled start Monday. Wainwright was given a cortisone injection Wednesday in hopes that it will knock out the discomfort on the outside of his elbow. Although the club hasn't ruled out Waino starting Monday, the smart money would be on them playing things cautiously and at least pushing him back. Thursday's off day would allow them to shuffle their rotation around a bit.

Adam Wainwright was given a cortisone shot Wednesday for the discomfort in his right elbow. The Cardinals will make a decision about Wainwright's scheduled Monday start on either Friday or Saturday. It seems likely that they will skip their heavily-used ace, but maybe not. Wainwright flew back to St. Louis from Tampa Bay on Tuesday night after experiencing discomfort on the outside of his pitching elbow. Ligament damage has been ruled out, and the thought is that he's dealing with something similar to tennis elbow. He has a 2.15 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings this season.

Adam Wainwright underwent an MRI Wednesday morning after experiencing discomfort on the outside of his elbow. The good news is that Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Wainwright's ulnar collateral ligament is "completely fine." The bad news is that the hurler is dealing with "tennis elbow" and will be re-evaluted in a few days. The ailment helps explain why Wainwright was lifted from Tuesday's start after throwing just 92 pitches over seven shutout innings. Whether Wainwright will need a stint on the disabled list should be known before the weekend.

Adam Wainwright pitched seven scoreless innings against the Rays on Tuesday, allowing seven hits in the victory. Wainwright battled for most of the night, as he lacked his best stuff on this day. The right-hander struck out just two and had to work out of a jam with runners on second and third with one out in the fourth inning. Even without his A game, the struggling Rays were unable to take advantage, giving Wainwright his ninth win of the season. The Cardinals' ace will take a 2.15 ERA and 0.93 WHIP into Sunday's tilt with the Nationals.

Adam Wainwright yielded two earned runs in eight-plus innings Wednesday in a no-decision at Kansas City. Wainwright carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and was in cruise control until the bottom of the ninth, when the Royals rallied for two runs to tie the game -- both scoring off Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal. Waino struck out eight and surrendered only four hits total. He'll carry a 2.31 ERA and 0.90 WHIP into his next start on the road against the Rays.
