Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times hears that the Angels are not willing to trade Mark Trumbo for Tyler Skaggs, "at least not straight up." Skaggs has naturally been linked in the Trumbo/Diamondbacks rumors, as he has plenty of upside but doesn't appear to have a spot in the club's 2014 rotation. He would be slotted into the Angels' rotation, but the Halos might prefer a more proven commodity. As Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic notes, Skaggs is coming off a poor season in which he lost some velocity.

Tyler Skaggs surrendered three runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Dodgers. Skaggs struck out three, walked three, and needed 91 pitches to record 13 outs. The rookie has been highly inconsistent over five starts, but he enters the All-Star break with respectable numbers, having shown promise befitting of a top prospect. Skaggs is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 29 innings.

Tyler Skaggs blanked the Rockies for eight innings to earn a victory on Friday night. Skaggs allowed three hits, walked one and struck out five. It certainly didn't hurt that the Rockies lineup was without Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, Dexter Fowler and Todd Helton, but it was still a nice showing that could give his trade value a little bump if the Diamondbacks want to cash him in prior to the deadline. We think they'd be better off holding on to him.
