Shaw was 2-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old is now working on a modest four-game hitting streak, but Saturday's effort marked his first multi-hit outing since Apr. 5 versus the Indians. Shaw has been contributing in nearly every way offensively except for the long ball, as he remains without a homer in his first 30 at-bats after blasting 13 in 226 at-bats in his 2015 rookie campaign. Despite the current power drought, he's tallying an excellent .333/.444/.467 line so far this season.

Shaw went 0-for-2 and was lifted for a pinch hitter for the third time in six games in Monday's loss to Baltimore.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell wants to get Chris Young some at-bats against lefties, but he appears to be forcing the issue, sending him up for Shaw mid-game and costing him at least one plate appearance. It's not like Shaw can't hit lefties; he hit .329 in 82 at-bats against southpaws in 2015. Shaw has the fewest plate appearances among players who have started all six games thus far for Boston.

Shaw went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored in Friday night's 8-7 win over Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw has started the season with a three-game hitting streak, but he's also been pinch-hit for in two of those three games. Manager John Farrell has gone with the right-handed batting Chris Young later in games when a lefty is on the mound. One less at-bat in a game or three over the course of a week may not be a big deal -- particularly if he's hitting when he does get his at-bats -- but it's something of which you should be aware.

Shaw went 2-for-5, scored a run and fielded his lone chance at third base cleanly in Tuesday's win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
After surprisingly winning the starting third base job over the wealthier Pablo Sandoval, Shaw finished up training camp on a down note (4-for-27), so it was reassuring to see him get off to a quick start. On the downside, Shaw whiffed three times Tuesday.

Shaw had a couple of hits, a walk and an RBI in Saturday's preseason finale against Toronto. He finished the spring on a 4-for-27 slide.
EDGE Analysis
During Friday night's game also against the Blue Jays, he went 0-for-4, twice grounding out into an infield shift of three infielders placed between second and first base. Shaw ended up hitting .338 overall in training camp, but the late swoon highlights what little major-league track record we have on Boston's starting third baseman.

Shaw has been named the Red Sox starting third baseman for Opening Day, MLB.com's Ian Browne reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was able to surpass the highly-paid Pablo Sandoval on the depth chart after a strong spring in which he went 19-for-57 at the plate with two home runs and an .886 OPS. His bat wasn't the primary reason for the promotion, however, as defense appeared to be the deciding factor in this case. What started out as a motivational tactic for Sandoval has now come to fruition, making Shaw a strong early-season target on the waiver wire.

Shaw was the starting third baseman for Thursday's game against the Mets. He went 0-for-3 and is now batting .419 this spring.
EDGE Analysis
With Pablo Sandoval (back) expected to miss a few days, Shaw will get the majority of innings at third base. Red Sox manager John Farrell hasn't made any reference to Sandoval being headed for the disabled list, though it something that might be in play the longer Sandoval remains out. In that event, Shaw would open the season as Boston's starting third baseman and an extra roster spot would open up, most likely for an outfielder.

Shaw, who started at third base Monday, went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The latest news out of Boston's camp is manager John Farrell announcing that the starting third base job is up for grabs between Shaw and Pablo Sandoval, who had two hits and two RBI as the designated hitter Monday. You'll want to keep a close eye on this competition over the final two weeks of preseason.

Shaw is not seen as a utility player only and is competing for regular at-bats as the starting third baseman, according to manager John Farrell, the Boston Globe reports. "I don't want to limit him in the sense that is he just a corner utility player. There could be the potential for more here. We're not in a place in spring training where we're going to shut that down. He could be competing for regular at-bats," said the manager.
EDGE Analysis
Farrell indicated that putative starting third baseman Pablo Sandoval is well aware that he needs to prove himself this spring. Shaw has been swinging a hot bat (.419 batting average, 1.132 OPS in 11 games) and Farrell is not in a position to be patient with an under-performing veteran like Sandoval, who has made four errors while showing limited range in 12 spring games. ""We've got 2 weeks to go here. [Shaw] has done a very good job to date. He's played, I think, a solid third base," Farrell said. "I don't want to pin him into a corner. I understand and respect the questions. We want his bat to contribute, more so than maybe a regular utility or backup bench player."

Shaw will be getting his first start in left field this weekend, the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw has played some outfield while in Triple-A, but his coming start in spring training should be viewed as a sign the Red Sox are going to keep him on the major league roster when they head north. The 25-year-old has been the star of training camp, hitting .480 (12-for-25) with two homers and nine RBI in nine games. If the bat continues to play, there will be pressure to find him at-bats at first base, third base or left field.
