Shaw was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.
Shaw will give the Red Sox a natural first baseman to back up Mike Napoli, as Brock Holt is more optimally suited as a utility man. Don't expect Shaw to see much action aside from when Napoli rests or if the team is in need of a left-handed pinch hitter.

Shaw was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket following Friday's game, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Shaw was brought up to start at first base Friday with David Ortiz serving a one-game suspension, and he went 0-for-2 with a walk in his brief big league stint. He will head back to Pawtucket with Ortiz eligible to return to action Saturday.

Shaw was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday and will start at first base and bat ninth against the Blue Jays, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Shaw will receive the start at first while Mike Napoli will serve as the team's designated hitter with David Ortiz serving a one-game suspension Friday. Shaw's stay with the club will likely be short, however, as Ortiz will return from his suspension Saturday.

Shaw was optioned to the minors Wednesday, Sean McAdam of CSN New England reports.
Shaw was added to the Red Sox's 40-man roster in November after swatting 21 homers across two levels in 2014. The 24-year-old is likely in line for a full season at Triple-A Pawtucket, but may receive his first call to the majors at some point later this season if Mike Napoli or Allen Craig miss time due to injuries.

Shaw homered off the Yankees Andrew Miller in Wednesday's spring-training game.
Shaw's not known for hitting lefties -- just .189 at Triple-A Pawtucket last season -- but he took Miller deep on the first pitch he saw. The first baseman was added to the 40-man roster in the offseason after a comeback season in 2014 when hit a career 21 homers.
