Shaw went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Wednesday night's win over the Orioles. The double was his first extra-base hit in 29 plate appearances.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw has been dealing with a nasty slump that's turned an above-.300 hitter into a .260 hitter whose bat is making little impact (one RBI in previous 14 games). This stretch of futility has dropped him to eighth in Boston's batting order while exposing a thin bench. It's that thin bench that keeps Shaw's hold on the third base job secure, but also has the organization looking to upgrade its bench, according to Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal. They aren't necessarily looking to find a replacement for Shaw, but if his slide continues, his hold on the job becomes less secure.

Shaw feels his slump is not anything mechanical and that he needs to improve his approach at the plate, the Providence Journal reports. Shaw, who went 1-for-2 with a walk in Tuesday's loss to Baltimore, entered the game with just one hit in his previous 22 at-bats.
EDGE Analysis
After Shaw had four productive months at the major-league level, opposing pitchers have developed a plan against him. In the recent series against Minnesota, it was backdoor breaking balls early in the count and elevated fastballs late that had Shaw chasing. "Mechanically, I don't think anything is wrong. It's more approach-based and what I'm looking for at the plate more than anything else," said Shaw. "It just happens to be that they're executing [the attack plan], they're ahead of you, and when you're not feeling good and down 0-2, that's not a good combination."

Shaw, who did not start Sunday, entered the game as a pinch-hitter and went 0-for-2, including bunting into a double-play. The left-handed hitting third baseman is 14-of-86 (.163) in his previous 22 games.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was not in the starting lineup Sunday against the left-handed Pat Dean, as Josh Rutledge got the start. It was the third straight game against a lefty starter that Rutledge has started at third base. Shaw's been struggling against all pitchers, but his results against left-handers is more pronounced (6-for-42, .143). Manager John Farrell isn't calling it a strict platoon, but he acknowledges left-handers are a challenge for Shaw right now.

Shaw is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw has been stuck in a 5-for-36 skid to begin June, dropping his average from .295 on the season to .268. He still has a stranglehold on the third base job, but with lefty Pat Dean on the mound for the Twins on Sunday, manager John Farrell decided it was a good time to give Shaw a rest. Josh Rutledge will fill in for Shaw at the hot corner.

Shaw was dropped to eighth in the batting order for the first time this season in Saturday's win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was among the hit-less in Saturday's 14-5 romp and is now 3-for-31 (.097) over his previous eight games. This is the first bout of adversity for corner infielder, who burst onto the scene last August and hadn't let up until mid-May. His minor league track record never suggested the lofty numbers he put up in first four months in the majors, so this recent downturn could very well be a correction.

Shaw went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in Saturday's 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old bounced back from an 0-for-7 stretch over the last two games to tally his second multi-hit outing of June. Shaw has yet to go deep in the new month, but does have a pair of two-baggers on the ledger already. His solid offense has helped make up for some of his defensive deficiencies to date this season, but he'll need to curtail the errors in order to keep an everyday role.

Shaw went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Friday night's loss to the Blue Jays. He also committed his team-leading seventh error of the season.
EDGE Analysis
It was a tough overall night for Shaw, who had mishaps in the field, at the plate and running the bases. He failed to deliver in three plate appearances with men in scoring position, his error led to an unearned run, and he got caught off second base on ground ball back to the mound. After a promising start to the season, Shaw has hit the skids, batting .183 (11-for-60) with 20 strikeouts in the previous 15 games. Replacing Pablo Sandoval with Shaw was the right move, but if Shaw's not a long term answer, the Red Sox will need Brock Holt (concussion) to return soon.

Shaw went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a run and a strikeout Wednesday against Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old continued his breakout season with two more hits to raise his average to .306 with a .901 OPS. It seems the hand soreness he felt a few days ago is a thing of the past now, so he should remains as a dependable option in one of the deepest lineups in the majors.

Shaw (hand) is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Michael Silverman of the Boston Heraldreports.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was healthy enough to replace Hanley Ramirez in Tuesday's game and now appears back to full strength. The 26-year-old is having a breakout season for the Red Sox, hitting .301/.370/.524 with six home runs and 29 RBI through 45 games.

Shaw (hand) filled in for Hanley Ramirez, who left Tuesday's game with a toe injury. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Boston's win over Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was given the night off due to a hand injury, but it was considered a minor one and it's not surprising he was able to play. Manager John Farrell had said earlier in the day that he expects Shaw to return to the starting lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.
