Tony Cingrani allowed two runs over seven innings, but the Reds fell to the Cubs in extra innings on Tuesday.
The lefty didn't get a win, but it wasn't any fault of his own. Cingrani allowed just two second-inning runs while striking out nine in his seven innings. Cingrani also didn't walk anyone. It's unclear how long he'll remain with the club, but he's a nice mixed league option while he continues to start. He'll have a tougher test Sunday when he takes on the Nationals.

Tony Cingrani only lasted five innings, but he struck out eight and held the Marlins to one run to win his first major league start in Thursday's 11-1 victory.
Cingrani allowed five hits, including a long homer to Justin Ruggiano, while issuing three free passes. He required 102 pitches to cover the five frames. The young left-hander's fastball was as advertised, and he used it almost exclusively throughout the game. A guy that relies on deception and one pitch is sure to go through rough patches, but Cingrani is a fine short-term fantasy option while Johnny Cueto is on the DL. He has another nice matchup next week against the Cubs.

Reds recalled RHP Tony Cingrani from Triple-A Louisville.
Cingrani will make his first major league start on Thursday night against the Marlins. It's a juicy matchup for the talented 23-year-old right-hander, who had thrown 14 1/3 scoreless innings -- racking up 26 strikeouts and issuing only two walks -- this season at Triple-A Louisville. He's worth a try in most fantasy formats.

Reds prospect Tony Cingrani will be called up from Triple-A Louisville to start Thursday against the Marlins.
The Reds will likely make the promotion official after Wednesday's game. Cingrani owns a 1.62 career ERA in the minors, including a 26/2 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 scoreless innings in Triple-A this season. Known for his deceptive delivery, the left-hander is well worth owning in most fantasy formats while Johnny Cueto (lat) is sidelined. He has a very favorable matchup for his first major league start.

Tony Cingrani was pulled after two innings in his start for Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Cingrani will take Johnny Cueto's spot in the Reds' rotation if Cueto's triceps injury forces him to miss time. The left-hander struck out five of the six batters he faced on Sunday and now has 26 strikeouts without allowing a run over his 14 1/3 Triple-A innings this season.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer suspects that Tony Cingrani might take Johnny Cueto's rotation spot.
Cueto suffered a triceps injury during his start Saturday night against the Pirates and will probably be out for a little while. Cingrani, 23, owns a sparkling 1.63 ERA and 11.7 K/9 in 209 2/3 career minor league innings. He'd carry good fantasy value for however long he's up.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday that the club considered calling up prospect left-hander Tony Cingrani to replace Sean Marshall (shoulder) in the bullpen.
The club didn't want to impede Cingrani's progress as a starting pitcher, so they ultimately settled on Logan Ondrusek as Marshall's replacement on the roster. "He's our first call-up if one of our starters goes down," Baker said. "He still has to work on his breaking ball. We kicked around Cingrani. It's just that we didn't want to impede his progress as a starter. If anything happens to one of my starters, we don't have a whole of quality backup." Cingrani, 23, owns a 21/2 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 scoreless innings through his first two starts with Triple-A Louisville this season.

Reds optioned LHP Tony Cingrani, RHP Daniel Corcino to Triple-A Louisville; RHPs Kyle Lotzkar, Josh Ravin to Double-A Pensacola; RHP Carlos Contreras, OF Yorman Rodriguez to Low-A Dayton.
The Reds also reassigned righties Nick Christiani and Chad Rogers, catcher Nevin Ashley, infielder Kristopher Negron and outfielder Ryan LaMarre to minor league camp. It's a little surprising that Cingrani was cut already, but he didn't have a real chance at cracking the Opening Day roster. The left-hander will join the rotation at Louisville.

Reds prospect Tony Cingrani was hit hard by the Indians in his first spring start, surrendering three runs on three hits in his one inning of work on Friday.
Cingrani also walked one and struck out one in the outing. He only threw 12 pitches in the outing, seven of them for strikes, but was far too hittable. The Reds plan on keeping Cingrani as a starter rather than moving him to the bullpen this season, meaning that he'll open the season at Triple-A Louisville. He could find his way into the rotation at some point during the 2013 season though, and is worth a late look in NL-only leagues.

Reds GM Walt Jocketty said Tony Cingrani is not the fallback plan if they don't sign a left-handed reliever.
"The plan is for him to get ready as a starter for [Triple-A] Louisville," Jocketty said. "He's certainly capable of pitching out of the bullpen, but we'll keep as a starter for now." Cingrani, a third-round pick in 2011, compiled a 1.73 ERA with 172 strikeouts over 146 innings between High-A Bakersfield and Double-A Pensacola this past season. With Aroldis Chapman converting to a starter, he's currently blocked at the major league level, but could be an option for the Reds' rotation at some point in 2013.
