Wright will be Boston's fifth starter to open the season, the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wright's job in the rotation is temporary, filling in for the injured Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), but is expected to last through early May. The first time Boston will need a fifth starter is Apr. 10 and depending on when Rodriguez is set to return, Wright may get another four or five starts beyond that. Rodriguez, who has yet to appear in a game since injuring his right knee Feb. 29, will throw live batting practice for the first time Saturday. Throw in a few more sessions of batting practice, a rehab assignment, and the time needed to get up to 90 pitches, and we can easily see Wright pitching in a starting role into May.

Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed Tuesday that the Red Sox are leaning toward Wright for the final rotation spot, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though it hasn't been made official, Wright seems to have earned the fifth and final rotation spot, setting him up to make his first start of the season Sat., Apr. 9 in Toronto. Given that his second outing may also come against the Blue Jays, it will be tough for Wright to get off to a decent start.

Wright allowed one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in 5.2 innings Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell hasn't made it official, but all signs point to Wright being named the temporary fill-in starter for the injured Eduardo Rodriguez (knee). Wright lowered his spring ERA to 2.86 while his main competition for the spot, Roenis Elias, has been pitching out of the bullpen this past week. Farrell and other key decision-makers will meet Monday to finalize open roster spots. At that time, we expect him to name Wright as Boston's fifth starter.

Wright seems to have an advantage over Roenis Elias in the competition for the final spot in Boston's starting rotation, MLB.com's Ian Browne reports.
EDGE Analysis
Elias will pitch in relief during Thursday's spring game, suggesting that Wright has at least a small advantage in their competition. Wright has also been the more effective pitcher this spring, with his 3.07 ERA looking quite a bit better than Elias' 6.23 mark. The winner may only get a few turns in the rotation, as the Red Sox hope to have Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) available in late April.

Wright allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out four in five innings Tuesday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Wright, who got up to 69 pitches, had a rocky first inning when he allowed a couple of runs on four hits, though none of the balls were hit particularly hard. From that point on, he held a relatively representative Marlins lineup in check. The performance as a typical one for Wright, who keeps the Red Sox in every game he pitches, and seemingly has the inside track as the fill-in starter for Eduardo Rodriguez (knee).

Wright and Roenis Elias are candidates to take the rotation spot of Eduardo Rodriguez, who will open the regular season on the disabled list with a knee injury, the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Until Thursday, it looked like Henry Owens was being considered, but he had a second straight poor outing and continues to battle command issue. Wright's been a good soldier for Boston the last few seasons, pitching as both a reliever and starter. His spring numbers are better than Elias' but there's still a few more opportunities before April. In 11 career starts, Wright has a 4.01 and has consistently got them into the sixth inning.

Wright pitched four scoreless innings in Friday's spring game against the Blue Jays. He gave up three hits, all singles, and walked one while striking out one. "A good mix of all three of his pitches, (with) a curveball he's worked on this spring, he's incorporated it more to get back into counts," manager John Farrell told the Boston Herald. "He was very much in control."
EDGE Analysis
The knuckle-balling Wright has put together a nice start to spring training, allowing two runs on eights hits and two walks in seven innings. The longer Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) goes without throwing off a mound, the more likely it is he begins the season on the disabled list and the more likely someone like Wright or Henry Owens opens the regular season in Boston's starting rotation.

Wright is still experiencing concussion symptoms, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this point, any hope of a return this season for Wright is out the window. The knuckleballer suffered the concussion in a freak accident in batting practice last month, and while he was able to throw several mound sessions in recent weeks, the headaches have remained.

Wright (concussion) has pitched off a mound four times, but is still dealing with symptoms, the Boston Globe reports. "There are no balance issues; there's no dizziness. Nothing when he's on the mound," interim manager Torey Lovullo said. "What he's working through now are some headaches that are popping up later in the day."
EDGE Analysis
Wright has yet to be cleared by Major League Baseball, a necessity for a player with a concussion to return to game action. If he does return this season, the report indicates it would be in a relief role.

Wright (concussion) may not pitch again this season, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
He is still recovering from a concussion and he may have missed too much time at this point for him to realistically get back on the mound for the Red Sox. Wright will enter 2016 as organizational rotation depth, and is probably unlikely to make the rotation out of spring training.
