Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that Matt Shoemaker will remain in the rotation and Hector Santiago will be sent to the bullpen. The club has no plans to sent Santiago to Triple-A to remain stretched out, as they want him available as a weapon out of the 'pen. Shoemaker holds a 4.35 ERA but has put up a 60/15 K/BB ratio over 60 innings this season. Given his career 4.52 ERA in the minors, we can't expect much going forward from the righty.

He began the year 5-0 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts but got blasted for eight runs and 11 hits in four innings Friday against Kansas City. Overall though, the 27-year-old right-hander has been a good addition to the rotation, going 6-2 with 4.35 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 60/15 K/BB ratio over 60 innings. Shoemaker welcomes the Blue Jays to Los Angeles next week.

Matt Shoemaker allowed eight runs in just four innings in Friday's 8-6 loss to the Royals. Shoemaker simply didn't have it. The eight runs and eleven hits allowed were both season highs. The Royals battered him in the third inning, putting up seven runs, the big blow being an Omar Infante grand slam. The debacle popped Shoemaker's ERA up to an even 4.50. Disappointing start aside, Shoemaker had actually been pitching incredibly well as of late, lasting seven-plus innings in each of his last two starts. He'll look to rebound when he goes up against the White Sox in his next start.

Matt Shoemaker delivered another impressive outing in Sunday's victory over the Rangers, allowing just one run on eight hits over 7 2/3 strong innings. Shoemaker racked up six strikeouts on the night and walks a pair. The 27-year-old right-hander has been a tremendous addition to the Angels rotation, posting a 5-1 record, 3.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 51/11 K/BB ratio over his first 50 innings. He'll look to continue that dominance when he does battle against the Royals in Kansas City on Saturday.

He has been in and out of the rotation throughout the season, but if Tuesday's outing grants him more time, he'll face the Rangers at home next.

Matt Shoemaker allowed 3 ER on 4 hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Mariners on Thursday. He struck out six and picked up his third win. Shoemaker, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, put on a good road showing as he lasted into the sixth and was pulled at just 73 pitches. He had the benefit of facing a Robinson Cano-less lineup. Michael Saunders did the only real damage to Shoemaker's line, smacking a two-run homer in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth (the sacrifice fly was off of Kevin Jepsen, who came in to relieve Shoemaker with two on in the sixth). On the season, he's put up a 3.54 ERA while being shuttled up and down from AAA.
