Holliday (quad) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday, but would likely be limited to pinch-hitting at the start, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
While Holliday may be ready to return offensively, he's reportedly still not ready to play the field. As a result, he would likely only see occasional at-bats over the weekend series. With the All-Star break on the horizon, it's conceivable that he will be good to go for the start of the second half if all goes well over the next few days.

Holliday (quadriceps) is "less likely" to return before the All-Star break than earlier reports indicated, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
There was optimism earlier in the week that Holliday could come off the DL for the Cardinals' series this weekend, but the Cardinals are exercising caution with the star outfielder and won't rush him back prematurely. While it's unlikely that Holliday will return this weekend, he has still not been ruled out at this point.

Holliday (quad) played catch and hit in the batting cage Tuesday saying he hopes to return this weekend against Pittsburgh, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
General manager John Mozeliak mentioned that there is no timetable for Holliday's return and that the veteran outfielder would be held out of the All-Star game if he did not play this weekend.

Holliday (quad) was unable to test his legs Monday due to a virus that kept him away from the team, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
There's still time for Holliday to return before the break but it's looking less likely now. With the Cardinals boasting the best record in baseball and a six-game lead in their division it's unlikely they'll push Holliday to return before the break.

Holliday (quad) will travel with the Cardinals next week and could make his return before the All-Star break, MLB.com reports.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said he's "still optimistic" that Holliday will be able to return at some point next week, adding: "We do have hopes, but understand, too, that if something doesn't feel right, look right, we can back off. But we'll continue to try to push him." The outfielder has been out since tearing his right quad June 8, but it appears he's ahead of the previously anticipated timeline.

Holliday (quad) increased the intensity of his running Friday, Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest reports.
Although the increased intensity would fall under the umbrella of progress, Holliday said that he's nowhere near full speed yet. With the All-Star break looming in just over a week, it would hardly be surprising to see him remain on the DL for the next two weeks if the Cards elect to take a cautious approach with the final steps in his recovery.

Holliday (quadriceps) took batting practice Saturday, Luke Thopmson of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
Holliday has been incrementally increasing his baseball-related activities in recent days, with the batting-practice session representing his latest step forward. Manager Mike Matheny hopes that Holliday will resume running within a couple of days, after which the Cardinals might be able to etch out a timetable for his return. Holliday only had three homers and 26 RBI across 178 at-bats prior to suffering the partial quad tear in early June, but owns an excellent .417 on-base percentage on the season.

Holliday is expected to test his injured quad with some running next week, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
He's been ramping up his activity in recent days, hitting off a tee and throwing, but Holliday has yet to progress to running after suffering a Grade 2 quad tear in early June. Regardless, the Cardinals are still holding out hope that he could return before the All-Star break.

Holliday (quad) has been hitting off a tee and throwing, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
While the Cardinals haven't provided an estimate or timetable, Holliday seemingly remains on track for a return at some point in July. His increased activity level suggests he could be back before the All-Star break, but Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the team will take a cautious approach.

Holliday (quadriceps) seems to be recovering well from the Grade 2 tear he suffered in early June, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Wainwright said "We've got some guys coming back soon. Matt (Holliday) will be back." That's good news for fantasy owners, Holliday was due to be reevaluated later this week so his status should be clearer then.
