Matt Cain was removed after striking out eight in six scoreless innings Monday against the Dodgers. Cain matched zeroes with Clayton Kershaw, but he wasn't nearly as efficient; he threw just one fewer pitch in six innings than Kershaw did in nine (93-94). Still, it was a strong first outing for the right-hander. Seemingly fatigued, he never struck out more than five batters in any of his last six starts of last year.
