Matt Cain allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings in a 2-1 loss against the Dodgers on Tuesday. Cain has allowed only three earned runs total over his last three starts, working at least seven innings in each, but is 0-1 during that stretch. The rotten luck continued this evening because Los Angeles couldn't figure out Hyun-Jin Ryu. Cain (8-10, 4.00 ERA) will toe the rubber on Sunday against the Padres.

Matt Cain allowed just an unearned run over 7 2/3 innings against the Mets on Wednesday, settling for a no-decision. Cain did all he could, handing it over to the bullpen with a 4-1 lead and just four outs to get. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be, leaving Cain at 8-9 despite having rattled off eight quality starts in his last nine outings. The right-hander has been one of the best pitchers of the second half and remains a must-start from here out.

Matt Cain allowed two runs (one earned) over seven innings as part of a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday. Cain was in line for the loss before the Giants rallied to tie it in the top of the ninth inning. The veteran right-hander was much sharper this time than in his return from the disabled list, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five. He'll carry a 4.24 ERA into a favorable matchup against the Mets next week in New York.

Giants activated RHP Matt Cain from the 15-day disabled list. Cain will return to the Giants' starting rotation on Saturday night against the Diamondbacks after sitting out two weeks with a right forearm contusion. Cain has a disappointing 4.43 ERA in 156 1/3 total innings this season, but the time off may have done him some good.

Matt Cain (forearm) threw a 90-pitch bullpen session on Monday and reported feeling fine. Cain is on track to return to the Giants' starting rotation this Saturday against the Diamondbacks. He was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career on August 23 because of a right forearm contusion.

Matt Cain (forearm) is aiming to return to the Giants rotation on September 7 against the Diamondbacks. Cain currently resides on the disabled list for the first time in his career due to a forearm contusion. Yusmeiro Petit is currently holding down Cain's spot in the Giants rotation, and could stick around at the expense of Barry Zito once Cain does return.

Matt Cain (forearm) expects to begin throwing sometime this week. Cain made his first ever trip to the disabled list this past week after taking a line drive off his pitching forearm. It sounds like he should be fine, though, and be able to return around the time he's eligible.

Giants placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm contusion. Cain will miss at least two weeks after being hit by a line drive Thursday. With Chad Gaudin also on the DL, it's not yet clear who will replace him in the starting rotation. The Giants recalled Yusmeiro Petit to take Cain's spot on the 25-man roster.

An X-ray on Matt Cain's right forearm came back negative. He's been diagnosed with a right forearm contusion as a result of a line drive that caught him during Thursday's start against the Pirates. While the news is good, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said it's too soon to tell whether Cain will make his next start. "We're not going to take any chances, I'll say that," Bochy said. "He's going to have to have a tremendous recovery and not feel anything."

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that Matt Cain "will be all right" after leaving Thursday's start following a line drive to the pitching arm. It appears that the right-hander was removed merely as a precaution after being hit by a Gaby Sanchez line drive. We likely won't know whether he'll make his next start until he throws his regular between-outings bullpen session, but it sounds like he'll avoid the DL.
