The Indians are hoping that Josh Tomlin (wrist) won't require a rehab assignment before rejoining the rotation.
Tomlin threw a 30-pitch bullpen session before Tuesday's game and hasn't had any issues in his recovery to this point. He's eligible for activation from the DL on Wednesday, but he seems unlikely to be ready to return before next week.

Josh Tomlin (wrist) played long-toss from 120 feet Sunday.
It's the third straight day he's played catch. Tomlin could be ready for a rehab assignment soon and seems likely to rejoin the Indians rotation in early June.

Josh Tomlin (wrist) played catch at a distance of 75 feet Friday.
Tomlin will progress in 15-foot increments from here with the goal of throwing off a mound early next week. The 27-year-old was recently diagnosed with intersection syndrome in his right wrist, a result of gripping the baseball too tightly in his last start on May 7. It's not considered serious ailment and he could be ready to rejoin the Indians' rotation by the end of the month.

Josh Tomlin is slated to play catch Friday after a second MRI revealed intersection syndrome in his right wrist.
Tomlin developed the ailment by gripping the baseball to tightly in the rain during his May 7 start against the White Sox. It's not considered serious. "The wrist feels so much better," said Tomlin. "The inflammation's gone way down, and I'm looking forward to throwing [Friday]." It sounds like the righty could return when eligible later this month.

Josh Tomlin is scheduled to undergo a second MRI on his right wrist Thursday.
Tomlin was placed on the disabled list over the weekend due to right wrist soreness. An initial MRI resulted in conflicting opinions, one suggesting that the problem is muscular while the other pointed toward tendinitis, so the Indians hope the second MRI will provide some clarity. The possibility of surgery isn't yet on the table.

Josh Tomlin's injured right wrist will be in a splint for seven days.
An MRI on the wrist showed soft tissue inflammation. The Indians aren't sure when Tomlin was injured, but head trainer Lonnie Soloff speculates that it may have occurred because the right-hander gripped the ball too tightly in the rain during his last start. It's not clear how long he'll be out. "Every pitcher has their areas of normal post-performance soreness," said Soloff. "Josh had soreness in the back of his wrist. That's not a normal area of soreness for him."

Josh Tomlin has been scratched from Saturday's start against the Red Sox with right wrist soreness.
It's not yet clear whether he'll need a stint on the disabled list. Tomlin, who is coming off a career-high eight strikeouts, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes the injury may have come from gripping the ball too tight in his previous start. Zach McAllister will be called up to replace him on Saturday.

Josh Tomlin struck out a career-high eight batters while allowing just two runs on five hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings in a 3-2 win over the White Sox.
Tomlin has actually struck out at least seven batters on three occasions this season, but he's punched out a total of five in his other three outings. The bottom line is that he relies heavily on his defense most of the time, and the 4.67 ERA and 1.24 WHIP he has so far is about as good as should be expected. He'll get the Red Sox at Fenway next.

Josh Tomlin picked up a victory after limiting the Mariners to one run in eight innings on Thursday.
Tomlin was outpitched by Felix Hernandez, but the Indians were able to come back and score two runs in the top of the ninth to win 2-1. The win was the first for Tomlin, who entered with an 8.31 ERA in two starts. He may have bested the Mariners, but he shouldn't be used in AL-only leagues against better offenses.

Josh Tomlin wasn't too sharp Monday in a loss to the White Sox, permitting four runs on seven hits and a walk over five inning.
Surprisingly, he recorded seven strikeouts, but it wasn't a great night for the right-hander, as he was taken deep by Alejandro De Aza and A.J. Pierzynski in the first inning. Tomlin got good results for a good portion of last season, but he struggled in the second half and in spring training and isn't a good bet in fantasy. He'll face the Royals over the weekend.
