Josh Tomlin struck out a career-high eight batters while allowing just two runs on five hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings in a 3-2 win over the White Sox. Tomlin has actually struck out at least seven batters on three occasions this season, but he's punched out a total of five in his other three outings. The bottom line is that he relies heavily on his defense most of the time, and the 4.67 ERA and 1.24 WHIP he has so far is about as good as should be expected. He'll get the Red Sox at Fenway next.
